On a similar note, I'm less than impressed with all these unpaid internships. I'm trying to get a summer job that actually has some career relevance for me. Mostly what I've found are unpaid internships, which is suspiciously like slave labor in some of these cases. The Smithsonian has a ton, but what am I supposed to do, move to D.C. for the summer, not make a cent, and I'm going to live and eat how? It's very aggravating.

Unpaid internships are like enforced volunteering. It annoys me. Like all members of school-related club X must volunteer at the Charity Y. So the kids show up and find there is nothing to do. I also don't get into selling candy to earn money for organization Z to send its members on a luxury-vacation/educational experience.
I'm donating my body to science fiction.

I don't even know how I missed this, Linda. I'm sorry to hear that your bunny has arthritis. What kind of medication is she on? My cat Mr. Boo has severe spinal arthritis, so I have a feeling we're going through something very similar with our pets.

About last night's flood...about 45 minutes after I had everything cleaned up and made that post, the lake in the basement was BACK!! Mark still wasn't home, so I called the neighbor to help me figure out where the mystery water was coming from. Turns out the pressure valve on our hot water heater was leaking! Our neighbor got it to mostly stop for the night and brought over his shop vac and helped me clean up for the second time, and today he and Mark replaced the valve and we're good!

I knew it was impossible that it was the washer because of a whole separate issue. Earlier that afternoon the same neighbor was over, delivering a new used washer for us that he fixed up. We did the test run, and it totally didn't empty--that water wasn't going anywhere! So today they drained it and took it apart and found the problem. I ordered the part this afternoon, and hopefully it'll be here within the week and I can wash clothes at my own house again!

If it had been the washer, there's a floor drain right there that the water would've made its way into eventually. Our laundry room is long, and the washer is on the total opposite side of the room that Lake Aquarius had formed in. :?

Oh boy. You do seem to be having a theme here. Hope your hot water heater is good to go for awhile.

I expect our water pump to die any day now ... they generally last about ten years and that's how old this house is. That will be fun.

Whine: I'm on the wi-fi. And my connection has been stable which is evident from the fact that my downloads are still downloading and uploading as they should with a decent download rate (that normal people consider slow *grumble grumble* :? ). So like why in all hells do I have to wait ages for my browser to load anything?? With both IE7 and Firefox and it's every frelling page I try to open on any random site!! And sometimes it just gives a "page can't be displayed" even though the site is perfectly up and the internet is perfectly connected!! It never had that problem before and I know there's plenty enough bandwidth on the thing to load innocent little browser pages, I mean like come on it's not like the page contains the whole frelling Sunday paper for crying out loud!! It could load pages just fine even when the internet connection was so slow that the download rate would measure in b/s and the ETA would measure in years!! Um and now even when the downloads get slow the browser is still SLOW AS HELL. What the frell!!! :explode: :bitch: :banghead:

Grrr. The browser dren started pretty much after the tech guy was here to "fix" something with the zoo's wi-fi a few days ago because people complained they couldn't connect etc, so he came to fix it I don't know what the frell he did, but that's pretty much when it started and I kinda suspected it was related but I didn't know how it could cause such problem, no one else has been having troubles :dunno: but now I think it's what caused my browsers to freak out. Because like I was still able to connect to the wi-fi etc at first the browsers still worked even though it started to get slow, the downloads weren't affected though but then the browsers started to get even worse until they just stopped being able to load any pages at all today. I spent most of the day freaking out about viruses and hijacks and running all the anti-spyware etc programs I was able to download after waiting for short tiny sparks of browser activity in between hours of browser malfunction. And like an hour ago after running all those programs and uninstalling and reinstalling my browsers and calling my friend to see if he knows anyone who knows how to fix computers my wi-fi connection went down as well so now I'm in the office connected to their network with my cable, and guess what everything's working perfectly fine. Both downloads and browser. So I don't know what the tech guy did there but now I'm pretty sure it's related because apparently there's nothing wrong with my browsers. It's the evil zoo karma. WTF. Like I said in another whine: this place is like a frelling black hole. Literally. :explode: :bitch:

Do those blueish-white headlights fill anyone else with rage? :bitch:

I just can't stand them. Was driving back last night and one was right smack in my sideview mirror blinding me. That's even worse than passing one going the opposite way because it stays with you. (But I was on the highway so I just started slowing down, and around 53 mph they passed me.)

Those things are dreadful, and I don't care if people say they can see better with them, because blinding everyone around you increases the road hazard. Grrr!

Yes, the halogen ones annoy the heck out of me too. Sometimes I assume they're peoples' high beams and they're not. Of course if you're in a little Subaru and Big Light Guy is in a big Ford truck or something, it's much the same effect anyway...

Those blue/white lights are a hazard. But they won't be made illegal until the required threshold of highway deaths can be attributed to them. I just hope those deaths do not include anyone I know. :(
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

This guy just calls from something he claims I registered for online like a trip to Florida or whatever. And like I keep repeating "I didn't register for that!!" over and over again, and he keeps saying I DID, and maybe I don't remember because it was like a year and a half ago or something, and I keep telling him that NO I DIDN'T, like why in all hells would I register for whatever marketing dren that offers trips to Florida anyway, and besides if I did I'd remember that. And he keeps going like is this your name, is this your email, is this your address, is this your birthday etc to try to convince me that I signed up for that but I know I DIDN'T, and I told him like maybe they got the info from something else I did sign up for he says no and keeps asking me is this your info etc blah blah blah, and I keep telling him I did NOT register for anything with them!! Because I didn't!! Then he goes like well anyway are you interested in a trip to Florida and I'm like NO!! Then he hangs up.

As if I don't have more important stuff to worry about than going on a frelling vacation I can't afford at the wrongest time. :? :wtf:

I hope you didn't confirm any of that information. It sounds like it could have been phone pfishing.

You might want to wait a few days and then check one of your annual free credit reports...

Oh, my commiserations. I've had several of those. Prep is the worst part, tho. :)
