I tend to agree with Alelou that Vulcans would vary over the 16 temperments as much as we do seeing there are several billion of them. But I think the canon Vulcan temperament we see most would be in the NT group which is called the Rationals. N means intuitive, it does not mean guided by emotions. F is for feeling which to me would imply guided by emotions. T is for thinking or tough minded as opposed to feeling. The NF group is called the Idealists and includes more of us at TriS than any of the other four basic groups. There is only one of us in the SP Guardian group and two of us in the SJ Artisan group. The NF and NT groups are considered abstract in their communication. The SJ and SP group are considered concrete in their communication. And by the way, J actually means scheduling, not necessarily judgmental.

The descriptions of the temperaments in the book “Please Understand Me II” is where I get my information, though there are many online descriptions of the temperaments which do differ but only slightly as far as I can see.

Personally I think the canon Vulcan personality is INTJ – The Mastermind, which is an individual temperament (as opposed to any of the groups which actually each include four temperaments) that includes more people at TriS than any other, based on the extremely small sample in my pole. The definition of INTJ includes being abstract in communication, utilitarian in how they implement their goals, pragmatic, skeptical, choosing to study science, are preoccupied with technology, work well with systems, prone to practice strategy more than diplomacy, good at planning operations, especially contingency planning. INTJs are the highest achievers in school of any of the temperaments. They are not outgoing or emotionally expressive and have a strong need for privacy. This description was extracted from three pages on this temperament.

KTR thought the ideal Vulcan would be an ISTJ – The Inspector, which you also could make a case for as the canon Vulcan temperament. The definition of ISTJ is concrete in communication, cooperative in implementing goals, certifying what is right and proper especially in accounting or business inventories, decisive in practical matters, hard-nosed and silent, distrustful of fanciness, their word is their bond. They base their self-image on being dependable, beneficent, and respectable. Intellectually they practice logistics far more than tactics, diplomacy or strategy. They are about 10% of the human population. I have pulled this definition out of three pages of description of the temperament, so it is not a complete portrait of the ISTJ.

Anyone have more thoughts on which temperament is closest to the canon Vulcan temperament?
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

I don't know. I think you pretty much just described all the "cool" Vulcans (INTJ) in canon vs. all the "tight-ass" Vulcans (the inspector one). But really, I can't imagine lumping Koss, T'Less, T'Pau, V'Lar and Kov all in the same personality types. The ones who make it past caricature have very distinct characters.

To quote Life of Brian, "We are all individuals."

That means that like Oprah you have a personality that could make you RICH! Isn't that a good thing?

For every Oprah there's 6,000,000 chicks who never made it in any large way and instead are like "And YOU get a beer and YOU get a beer and YOU get a beer..." at the local pub. We're the ones who end up poor. :doubt:

For serious? No wonder we're so weird.

Maybe we just just give up and move to LA.

PS It's frightening how much that face Kirk is making in your signature is EXACTly like the face you make in real life all the time. Usually when you're thinking about food. Or sex. Or both¹.

¹Like in the Seinfeld episode with Kellie Waymire in it².

²Seinfeld/Star Trek reference. 50,000 bonus points for me.

At least you both are completely compatible. That means you can't split up and sight incompatibility on the court papers. So one more reason you two have to stay together. Again also a good thing. And Ek even if you didn't make it large a vast majority of the population will more than likely adore you. Most people love Oprah and Bill Cosby. Oh yeah some don't, but those people are a very small minority. So you're completely likeable and your husband is a perfect match. Good thing I'm not the type of person to envy all that... Well... Not in a mean way.

God you two are ADORABLE! :D

Hello? I said sex already. You didn't read the whole post? So typical

Ya, I agree with you for the most part WG, but of course, there's such a thing as being TOO compatible. Like when one person goes, "Hey! *I* know! ________" (← fill in this blank now with something like "Let's get some fainting goats!" or..."Let's go to a rally in Washington DC!" or... well, you get the picture....)

....and there's no one NORmal there to go: "Hold on, now. That's a really bad idea!"

Instead, the other person just goes, "Yay! Fainting Goats!"

Or "Jello Jigglers!"

Or "YOU get a SmartCar! and YOU get a SmartCar!"

...depending on whether you are talking about, y'know, *us*, or Cosby, or Oprah.

We're merely demonstrating a few of the ENFP traits, namely an inability to quit, even when it's long past time, and a boisterousness that's entirely inappropriate to the venue.
