Darn it. Wish I could I say I looked like that in 5 years, but I *think* I'd need a bit of surgery.

Interesting article about military science fiction - if that's you cup of tea:

Your Military Science Fiction Isn't Really Military Science Fiction

And a follow-up:

This is big news over here:

Boyfriend: 'Jihad Jane' suspect wasn't religious

The Muhammed drawing and the artist (Lars Vilks) was actually first mentioned in the newspaper I work at, by one of my colleagues (see here). It was at a local art exhibit. And it ballooned from there.

Nonesense question. when I was very young women Painted their toenails. Not sure why, may have been to prevent splits or some nasty growth. Anyway, do women still paint their toenails? Color of choice back in my youth (5 years old) was Red.

I paint my toenails. I don't always do it in the winter, though, because my feet don't get any air from October until April. I usually paint them a dark rose or red, but not a bright red.

One of my goals is to move someplace where I can wear sandals all year long. Arizona??????

After one gets acclimated it does get a little nippy in the winter. Snowbirds always stand out because they are wearing shorts and short sleeve tops, Sandals too. Native and Transplants are wearing jackets, long leg trousers or slacks and shoes.

I am in the sonoran Desert and it is a tad warmer than the North. Best place to wear Sandals year round would be Yuma or Gila Bend. Tucson is high so it is cooler.

But Anyone who is anyone has a home in Arizona. Great place to live.

I work in a salon, and pedicures are among the most popular services. That includes getting the toes painted.

French-style pedicures (sheer white, beige, pink or lavender edged with white) are popular here, as are the usual nail colors.

I get mine done in the summer time, but as I'm not into what I call "Barbie colors" (traditional pinks, etc.), you're more likely to see colors like blue, black, green, silver, bright purple, etc. on both my fingernails and my toe nails.

Hehehe... I am up near the Canadian border in Washington State. Can see the sound from my front porch. Doesn't matter what time of year, it's shirt sleeves and birkenstocks. You can tell the transplants by the layers of clothing they wear... and the umbrellas.

Momma always said I hated shoes.. even half a century later, I still hate shoes.

I never have painted my toenails. Have no clue why.
Maybe it was my Dutch Reformed upbringing, no make up, no fancy stuff.
Sigh...

You and Enterprikayak must be neighbors.

A lot of women get pedicures, SB. Personally I'd rather spend that time/money on something else.

Sorry, no pedicures over here either, but I do have good looking feet, or used to. :)

Silverbullet, girls today most definitely paint their toenails and have little pictures and sparkles and decorations applied. It is quite impressive.

Between retail and hair, I've spent the last 20 years working on my feet. I've come to view pedicures as something I do for the health of my feet, considering they get rid of callouses, overgrown cuticles, and other problems aside from just painting your nails. A lot of this is stuff you can do for yourself at home if you're so inclined, but mine never look as good as when a professional does them.

'Sides, being in the beauty biz, I can't go through sandal season with ugly, crunked-up toes. ;-)

I have very sensitive feet - so I always get pedicures.

I have them painted colors - right now they are apple green. I tend to avoid the more pedestrian colors like pink and red - my toes are either green, blue or lavender usually.

No pedicures here. I tried once but because I don't make calluses pedicures really hurt. I can't tolerate the files they use. I used to paint my toenails before med school, back when I painted my nails. Now nail polish and long nails are out for sanitary reasons at work, at least on the hands. I paint my nails on both hands and feet occasionally, mostly when I'm on vacation and I can wear open-toed shoes. When I do you can't really tell, though, except that it looks a bit neater, since they're usually a natural color like pale pink. My daughters, on the other hand... Well, the last time I checked, my eleven year old had painted her toenails alternating neon purple and green every other nail.

Nail salons are big business here. The runny joke is that each shopping center built here comes with a nail salon. I don't like having pedicures because I feel uncomfortable having someone on the floor working on my feet. But when I do, usually when my feet truly require a de-callousing, I get a color that is closest to my skin color for toe and finger nails. I always consider other colors but choose that color every single time, to my daughter's chagrin.

BTW, Distracted, your daughter is not alone. My sixteen year old loves to paint her toe and finger nails alternating colors. Unfortunately, I've seen up to five colors on the girl at once. Black, electric pink, silver, red, and blue. I had to put my foot down at sharpies (she wanted more colors).
