I just wrote a scene the other day in my latest story in which I mention Vulcan names that don't translate well into Earth basic. In the authors notes I give credit to Transwarp for his 'Those Odd Vulcan Names'. I mention this just so nobody thinks I ripped off this article

A few months ago I actually met an Indian student whose surname was Rajalingam (Rajah is King in Hindu. Lingam is the word for an icon of the god Shiva, but is thought by some to represent the male genitalia. The term is actually used as such in the Kama Sutra.) I asked him if he got much ribbing from his fellows about his name and he looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently many Hindu names would be considered NSFW if translated literally, but in India people think nothing of it. Must be a cultural thing.

I used to index books and the book indexers keep a list of funny names of authors (which I know is pretty subjective, but . . .) how about:

Ly Ying Ho

There are two people I know in real life who have names so funny that people kind of slide over to you and whisper: "And people really call him that?" And you have to assure them it's OK by using the name a few times before they are brave enough to use it themselves. LOL . . .

And interesting essay on Isaac Asimov's psychohistory (from the Foundation series) can be read here:

Psychohistory: Was Hari Seldon pulling our leg?

And it continues with the stuff written after the original trilogy:

Forward and Backward with the Foundation

Can't say I disagree with it much, although I haven't read the Benford-Bear-Brin books. The Second Foundation always creeped me out, and Gaia even moreso.

This is one of the weirdest stories I have read in a long, long time.

Who needs aliens, really, when we've got all this strangeness on our own planet?

There's something peculiar to me about using gay men to referee between groups of macho guys competing with each other. In some places in the US that plan would backfire. The poor referee would end up pounded on by both sides. Must be a cultural thing that it works in the Philllipines.

Well, if the poor guy is pounded on by both sides, doesn't that solve the referee'ing problem.

Sort of?

Distracted, you can't get much more Macho than in the Phillipines. Those guys are touchy as a tromped on Rattlesnake. They are really Macho.

Last time I was in the hillipines, the sun went down and the Guns came out. Look cross eyed at anyone and you could get a bulllet or two in your hide. Shootouts in Bars, restaurants, Moves at one time were fairly common. Got to a point where people wer forced to check thier guns at the door and two big guards made shure they did. I got frisked a number of times going into places. Not sure how it is now but think that Maco still rules there.

BTW, another sign of Macho was the Filipino Millionaire with his tall blonde Australian girl friend. Little man trotting alongside a six foot blonde.

Today I got to meet a Husky face to face for the first time. I have never met one in real life and my friend took his almost four month old puppy with him this morning. She was the cutest dog I have ever met. When my friend got her one of the main things he paid attention was the face, he wanted the one with kinda of mean look and the so called eyebrows. She has different colored eyes one blue and one brown and what a soft fur. The funniest thing happened with her this morning when my friend came to get me the dog managed to somehow activate some kind of central locking system in the car by pushing the door locking button and managing to enter some kind of sequence, now when you start to drive the car it automatically locks the doors. I've always wanted a dog but an apartment isn't the best place for one.

Especially not for a Husky. They're pretty, but they get awfully big. Now my new little grand puppy, on the other hand, he'll never get bigger than 4 pounds according to the breeder. He's a teacup Chihuahua. And no, he's not barking yet. We shall see if I still think he's so darling when the yipping and yapping starts. He's 11 weeks old and I took him to the Krewe des Chiens parade on Saturday wrapped in a blanket and wearing a hoodie sweatshirt my daughter bought for him. (Yes. This IS a dog. ) Every ten seconds someone stopped me to exclaim about how cute he was. It was like bringing a newborn to church.

I've got cousins who have a Husky in the house. It's not something I'd want to attempt.
