Re: Paxton's goal
Trying to talk about the purity of races is ridiculous when you consider that we all come from the same original gene pool. We can trace practically every man on the planet back to about seven specific male ancestors. If we have so much trouble with superficial ethnic and racial differences, can you imagine us ever coping with a second species ... say, had Neanderthals survived?
As it is, maintaining purity is the excuse for practically every atrocity known to mankind. Maybe it's some deepseated psychological tendency in human brains, as demonstrated in the way most little kids never want their foods to touch each other.

Re: Paxton's goal
Yeah but I'm not at all sure that was Paxton's ultimate goal... In the "fight" with Super! Archer, he was saying that mankind should go to the stars by subduing worlds and taking resources on there own. Like his father had done with the moon. Um MU anyone? I don't think he just wanted to keep humanity "Pure" I think he wanted to take over the world, and then the universe. Hitler, Palpatine, Dr. Chaotica (had to do it) the principle is the same.
What I want to know is how many of those roaches are in Starfleet, and how can I tie them to the Rommies?

Re: Paxton's goal
I believe that Pasxton's goal was to take over Earth. If he had succeeded in arousing the nutters and enough of them he could have intiated a Coup against the wordd government. If people are frightened they will listen to the crazies. Once Paxton was in the saddle the camps would be open and intellectuals would be lined up against the wall. Starfleet would be abolished and re-established as Paxton wanted. this is not too crazy. It has happened in too mnay countires. People let in some group only to find that they are worse than what the people had been firghtened of in the first place. Paxton would not stop there. Once he had the Earth in his grasp he would be headed out to space on a conquest drive. Those loonies never know when to take thier winnings and go home.

Lovely, isn't it?
I swear I can't understand how you get the energy and optimism to write happy fics (except "Not Dead", maybe), Silverbullet.

Re: Paxton's goal
I understand the 'nutters' out there but in the end it never works to keep things pure. There will always be those that desire what's different just because or because they're not supposed to have it. I do think nature wins out in the end and the combination of DNA across ethnicity or species makes more long-term sense. The strongest and most adaptable survive and nature is going to do what is needed to make that happen.

Warpgirl, you are right. I have seen things like what has happened or is happening in Sudan/Dafur, Rwanda or the congo in other places. Perhaps worse.
I am by nature an optimistic person dispite al evidence to the congttrary that the world is a decent place to live in.
I am hoping to wrirte something really good one of these days like so many on this board. Now that is optimism

No, optimism is just a lack of information. And pessimists are nothing but optimists with experience

Um...doesn't everybody think they are realists? Otherwise, what are they saying? "Hey, yeah, okay, so I'm a little delusional..."
I suppose you might get a few self-proclaimed surrealists, but I bet they're very annoying people to hang around with.

Re: Paxton's goal
No not really, some people think that being a realist is code for being a closet pessimist. Back to Paxton, anybody think he can get up to diabolical doings in prison? After all Capone did.

Re: Paxton's goal
Prison? I was hoping he would be taken up in a space ship and shoved out of an airlock. He did have the Doctor who cared for Elizabeth killled and probably the female assistant Susan Kor (something or the other) That is premediated Murder. He may have had one of his people do the deed but he ws behind which makes hi guilty of Murder. so, executon time for him. None of the stuff of living off the taxpayer for the rest of his life.

Right!

I've seen it phrased: "An pessimist is an optimist mugged by reality!"
Once a friend told me I wasn't a cynic (which I claimed) but a disappointed romantic. But isn't that the same thing?
She's got an awfully nice bum!
