Liked latest story but am getting a little tired of Trip being made to look like a hick. Talking with his mouth full. Bad enough he is made out to be in front of T-Pol acting like a school boy being given a fessing down but a harsh t-Pol Staring down at the floor with his head hung low. Trip is a man, a gentleman, he has been raised with manners, he is not a hick nor is he a bumbling clown who holds his hand out to get it slapped because he was bad.

Sorry but I had to vert. Nothing personal meant. Stories ar still well written. I guess I am just defending guys here.

Trip is the fantasy love of my life, but judging from what I see on TV, the man talks with his mouth full. I'm not going to make him into some paragon of table etiquette when that's not what I saw on the screen. Like everybody in the real universe, and all interesting characters in the made-up universe, he has his imperfections.

Also, T'Pol might just be a little more easily offended in these matters than most of us are, and this story was from her point of view. I assure you, she would pretty appalled sitting at MY family's dinner table too.

Well considering this is season 1 and Alelou is trying to maintain canon and character in these scenes I think she's dead on in her depiction of TnT. At times Trip was portrayed as a bit of a hick, and T'Pol was harsh by juman standards. So I think this is brilliantly executed. They're not in love yet you know, even Trip would deny even being romatically interested. So I won't complain about one little thing when it comes to characterization.

Although I have to admit, Trip is not the fantasy love of my life. He's in there, sure... But I have three others who are tied for that honor.

I had more the image of Trip spilling/spitting food outside his mouth instead just talking with his mouth full, which I have seen him done. Guess I misread it, being so engrossed in T'Pols POV.

Oh, well, that was just a reaction to what she'd just said! Vulcans never spit out stuff from shock or laughing, so she just didn't understand.

I meant more the scene where she remarks he was shuffling his food into his mouth - got this image in my head of Trip shuffling loads of plain spagetti with into his mouth and pieces of spagetti falling from his mouth to his plate. Really, when I read one of Alelou's missing scenes, it plays in my head like I am watching television.

Proven fact boys forget table manners when very hungry. But yeah I wish they were real deleted scenes or something.

T'Pol's POV:
He swallows a mouthful hard; as is his habit, he was eating and speaking at the same time (*and, who knows, maybe also thinking?*)
For once Alelou and I are in agreement. (Well! Maybe not only for once!)

Outvoted. I do remember in one episode "Precious Cargo" an Alien eating spaghetti and stuffing it into his mouth with some of it hanging out. but I honestly do not remember Trip doing it. anyone remember the Episode? Come to that I don't remember him talking with his mouth full. In "Breaking the Ice" he finished swallowing before he spoke to the vulcan Captain. The only meals I remember were in the Captains Mess and I don't recall trip talking with his mouth ful or stuffing his face. I am probably wrong, as usual. anyone can give me chapter and verse. I have a number of Episodes on Vcr plus Season three and four on DVd.

He was probably exaggerating it for comic effect, but it's particularly obvious during the meal in Unexpected. But I've noticed other times, as well.

Frankly, it's hard to eat AND get your lines out during a scene without a little overlapping. It's not like the director is going to want to wait and have the audience watch you chew while you hold up your hand, then swallow.

Just rewatched "Breaking the Ice". Trip talks to T-Pol with a bit of Pie in his mouth. Archer speaks to Vanik with his mouth full twice. Trip did not speak to Vanik with food in his mouth. So, seems that Archer does and Trip does a bit.

Does anyone know what is with that slice of Pie at the end of the Episode. T-Pol is in her uarters and she is looking at a slice of Pecan Pie, but no explanation for it. What does it signify? The look on her face is strange. Is this a Harbinger of what is to come? Is T-Pol contemplating how strange Humans are?
