True the readers in my family (including me) can hoard hundreads of books at a time for years. Of course I don't have nearly that many right now, or they might be in mom's basement and the attick. Not sure. Still, I love to grab an old book and just get lost.

so I am a book hoarder. I love the damned things. Love to own them, hold them, read them.

All in pristine condition. I don't lend books. Learned a long time ago that lending is not smart. IF you get the book back (rarely) it is ruined.

So why shouldn't T-Pol read books, all kinds? she has a logical mind is probably curious about her galaxy.

Of course, now that Trip is around she might find another diversion.

I checked out Shouldknow Better's story Golden Lads and Lasses and it seem to work just fine I just finished reading the story at TripTpolers.

Maybe it's because I have to help organize the shelves at the thrift shop and the library book sale, so I know there are enough old hardcover Danielle Steele and Stephen King and John Clancy books out there to account for about a continent's worth of trees. You can't GIVE those things away, let alone sell them. And you can't even recycle hardcovers. We usually end up throwing them in the dumpster. And don't tell me the senior citizen center or the hospital wants them. They already have them, believe me. Probably multiple copies. (I do bag up other excess books for them all the time, mostly because I share a shift with an old lady who mutters darkly about how throwing out perfectly usable stuff is a sin. I have her take the bags to her senior center, since that's how she feels about it. )

I think it's time that we (individuals and businesses) actually started recycling the really ratty old ones in the blue boxes (covers pulled off, pages loosened). we all (myself included) just continually donate and donate them, and meanwhile the acid-y paper is disintegrating, and no-one's benefiting from them. (Even though it really does feel criminal to "throw away a book!" ) I've lately been putting some of my worst copies of things into the recycling in the hopes that at least they can be made into new copies of Danielle Steel crap.

Its scary. Most copies of Harry Potter, you go to the back, and it brags about how the book was made of recycled paper and in doing so they saved 1,000,000,0000,00000000,00000 litres of water and fourhundred bajillion trees. SAVED. That means they USED waaaaaaaaaay more than that. It's crazy to think how many trees are still being cut to make books when digital would be such a good second option to have. They're all terrified of piracy though. And so, in order to protect the intellectual property of poor little millionaires like Danielle and JK and Stephen, countless COUNTLESS virgin trees are hacked down. I know about the eBooks out there, but it's still so clunky and most things aren't offered.

I agree we need wood for certain things. But i do not agree that we need even 2% of the crap that we currently waste wood on.

It will be very interesting when the current generation of toddlers (like my 4 yr old Aureilia who has actually been to some small peaceful protests about illegal tree-felling and stuff, and LOVES the idea of telling them "NOT TO CUT THE TREES" with an angry, cutting, chastising shake of her pointer finger) ...when these kids are in charge, I bet the world is a lot better. I really do.

She seems like she's going to grow up supremely in touch with the environment because I just include it in our daily conversations.

No doom, and gloom. Just the idea of personal responsibility, and standing up when something underhanded is going on.

So when she sees litter on the ground, she just gets so mad. It's so cute.

"Ooooh!" she fumes. "Those litterers! They're so lazy! And now WE have to carry it, Mummy! Oh, those litterers! Oooooooh they just make me so mad! Why do they DO it, Mom?"

"I guess they just don't know any better, sweetie," I say with a sigh, as we pick up the trash with the plastic bag that's meant to hold the dog poo.

"Well, if I see them, I'M GONNA TELL THEM." she vows vehemently.

She doesn't worry about it normally, but boy when something catches her attention, she is PERSONALLY OFFENDED at the slight to her planet.

The future will still have tons of money-grubbing jerks, but with empowered girls and boys like Aureilia out there, slated to be running everything soon, I think we've got an awesome chance.

OK, Alelou's Missing Scenes from Season One is Posted. It's readable, but there is some entirely new weirdness for the IT people to ponder. FYI: I posted it using Mozilla Firefox. I have more to post, but I guess I'll wait for the all clear the from IT guys.

What I see is a different font than usual and each line is in it's own white box against the usual orange background.

LOL. That's a new one. Please just take it down. I tried switching these things into plain text and then back, but I think fanfiction.net has done something new, because the text was in columns when I cut and paste it even in that format. Unfortunately it's too late for me to officially download my own documents from there. I'll also try in Firefox next time in case this is some sort of IE8 or google toolbar thing.

If someone can figure out how to convert the files I sent you into something decent, you're welcome to them, but otherwise I think I'd say I'd prefer to just refer folks to the series at fanfiction.net: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5058323/1/M ... Season_One I'm sorry, but I just really don't have time to recreate these right now.

(So any previous advice I've given about posting at ff.net first to get rid of the extra line spaces you so often end up with here... ignore it.)

BTW, formatting gurus here ... my other pet peeve about posting here is that all M and N dashes turn into hyphens. That's NOT what authors are going for when they use dashes.

Word makes them by default when you put a space hyphen space, or more properly if you're following MLA format, two hyphens with no spaces.

The only way they work here is if you turn off your Word defaults and put two hyphens in instead. And that Word default mechanism is very useful in the rest of my life.

Except it has kept my dashes this time ... because somehow even switching it to plain text didn't get rid of ff.net's coding. Sorry. This has never happened to me before.

I'm curious now so I'm going to try doing it in Firefox and see what happens. It's either ff.net or something going on with my browser or my machine.

EDIT: The problem cutting and pasting is definitely an issue with the browser or possibly Google Toolbar. It worked fine in Firefox. JT, I sent you a new file.

However, in Firefox, I can't edit or quote on these boards. Sigh. Yeah, I know, it's an add-on I'm missing or something.

Well, at least that will work here. And people know what you mean with two hyphens.

They run the risk of NOT knowing what you mean when your one m-dash turns what you meant to be two separated parts of your sentence instead into one long, ungrammatical sentence with a very strange hyphenated word you never intended in the middle. Although I do comfort myself that the average reader here can figure out what you were trying to go for.
