We need more ENT inspirational posters

The car commercial doesn't make any sense within the context of the commercial anyway since it's pretty obvious that they're stretching it to give it a sexual context.

Personally...as a female...I didn't find anything offensive about that run at all. *shrug* I actually thought it was pretty funny... I saw it as a play on the commercial, no more demeaning than the poster that referenced the "Holiday Inn Express" ads. Any way, I know I'm still pretty new around here, but so far I haven't seen any evidence of attitudes that Jolene/T'Pol is nothing more than a collection of body parts; that said, if I had a body like hers I'd probably be kind of disappointed if guys weren't making inspirational posters about it! Just kidding, but only to a point--you know what I mean.

But that's just me...and my loose change. So far here I've seen the characters and the actors portraying them treated with dignity and respect, so I don't think it's a big deal.

I suppose it's only logical, in a biological sort of way, that different things will inspire different folks.
I hope the calendar will be PG13, though.

To behonest, as a Brit I didn't get it... I have never seen the commercial referenced... having been told the general concept of the advert I now find Eian's run hilarious.

As for the objectification of women... I think it is very unfair for ANYONE to accuse someone of that based on one run or item. A simple examination of Eian's work shows that like me, he is far more interested in using Trip as the butt of his jokes... even Archer nearly tops T'Pol in his usage as the butt of jokes.

That being said, there is a far more lewd discussion that objectifies Trip and men on this thread that runs for over two pages! Nobody complained. There is even a link to a video the discussion is based on.

Further examination of Eian's work will show that he prefers T'Pol to be an equal if not superior to Trip and that he also prefers Trip to be the "object". It is after all comedy that he strives for... and achieves... and Trip has far more comic potential.

As for the calendar being pg-13. I think it is safe to say that the calendar won't exceed the age rating on the Enterprise DVD boxsets.

Eian said he might be a "wee bit offended", I have to say that I am offended. Eian and I are the most prolific posters in this thread.

It will take some courage on my part to actually post new images... incidentally, I run all my my posters past women before I post them for quality control and to make sure I don't do something offensive.

Eian agreed to take on my idea of the calendar, for which I am extremely grateful as I am not good with making posts to address large groups... I suffer from agrophobia and other social phobias, the Internet is my only outlet as I haven't left the house in 6+ years except for medical reasons. I hope that he will continue to make more posters and at least send them my way so we can both have a good laugh.

Finally, I would like to apologise to Eian if I wind up causing him more problems with this post... I felt strongly that he was being wrongly judged and in a move which goes against my character as non-confrontational, I felt I had to speak out.

I hope you won't let someone's honest reaction freak you out too much. There's a broad range of opinion here on just about every topic.

I agree. And I think we all need to lighten up a little.

Looking at my own body of work, which I know none of you have probably seen, I objectify women the way I write the Han Soio character much more than the poster run in question has. And I am a woman. Now, just because I wrote it, does that make it a reflection of my own attitudes and values about women? Certainly not! It's a work of fiction, as are these posters. To be honest, I find porn-without-plot stories more offensive than Eian's play on that commercial, yet I see them in this fandom and any other you can think of, and were I to complain (which I wouldn't) I'm sure I'd be met with "If you don't like it, don't read it." So since it's not to my taste, I simply pass it up and look for something else.

And let's be honest with ourselves: physically, Connor and Jolene are very beautiful people, and whatever our genders and orientations, we have to admit that this has somehow further enhanced our collective love affair with the Trip/T'Pol pairing. Naturally most of us are going to react to that on some level--it's human nature--whether we're talking about T'Pol's assets, or Trip's. So, express your appreciation for whichever one you're attracted to, knowing that the price is not getting upset when the tables are turned.

I understand a certain degree of gun-shyness to put up new posters, but hopefully we can all chill out and this will blow over, and our most prolific and entertaining contributors to this thread can get back to business as usual. Guys--I say keep doing your thing!
