I think you should. There is a lot of metallic dust generated during welding. Also some nasty gasses that could have a potential corrosive and/or other nasty effect.

If your student health center doctor didn't put dye in your eyes and check with a blue light for corneal ulceration, you need to see an eye doctor, IMO. If this was done and it was normal, you might just have ocular allergies or a viral eye infection. You could wait a day or so and use some artificial tears to see if washing the eyes out will help your symptoms. Ocular allergies would respond to an OTC drop called Zaditor. It's usually wisest to get a complete eye exam, though, if you have blurred vision or eye pain/irritation which lasts longer than a few days. Most student health centers aren't equipped to do a complete eye exam.

Re: The Whine thread.
He did do the dye and blue light thing and he said he didn't see anything, aside from a condition that's pretty common among farmers. Apparently all the dirt and crap that's gotten blown in my eyes over the years has made my eyes develop something like callouses on either side of them, and they've gotten bloodshot because of some irritant. There's no pain or blurred vision though, I just noticed that my eyes were really, really read last night.

A little 12 year old girl disappeared from my son's middle school yesterday. Rather, she was last seen at the school. No sign or word of her anywhere. Police all over the area on alert. Same age and grade as my son.

That is awful, Bnb. Very scary for your family. Hopefully the girl will be found unhamred. But no matter how the situation ends, if it turns out an adult was responsible for abducting and harming her in any way, there is no punishment I can think of which would be severe enough, including all forms of torture that my fan fic writer's mind can come up with!

Oh jeez. Hope she's okay. Are both parents accounted for? Most of these cases are actually due to a noncustodial parent taking off with a kid.

Re: The Whine thread.
There is oddly very little information available. The local news gives her name and a description, says the police are asking for leads, reports that her parents are worried, reports where she was last seen, and gives a contact number. That's it.
No Amber Alert, which is SOP in cases like this. No pictures broadcast. No interviews with the family members. No background information. No nothing. It could be that she is a runaway and they don't want to spook her. Or it could be that there has been a ransom demand and they don't want to piss off the kidnappers and cause them to panic. Or... who knows?
All I know is that for the first time this year, my son's school had cops at the front door scanning 12 year olds for weapons before they were allowed into the building.

Do the authorities behave this way if it is a noncustodial parent abduction? At least that might mean the girl would be treated okay, unlike a stranger abduction with no good on the mind.

Re: The Whine thread.
No. Ordinarily they put out an Amber Alert no matter what the circumstances. General notification across all forms of media up to and including flashing notices along the highway. The kid's picture is usually shown on tv, along with a VERY detail description. Instead, this time we got height, age, color of clothing and backpack, and race. They didn't even give out her hair style or length. They didn't say if she is fat or thin, nor did they offer any identifying features or habits. There is something very unusual about this one. With a non-custodial parent they usually push it pretty hard in order to catch them before they can get too far away with the kid and disappear completely.

Maybe the police has an idea of where she could be. As I understand it the Amber Alert works immediately to assure the child's life (and making difficult the kidnapper to run away), so if they didn't use it they'll have a good reason. But it's just a supposition, the police could be negligent, you know.

I'd love to believe that everytime a familiar abducts a child is for better reasons than the average stranger's, but it isn't true.
I have real issues with these things. I remember that in College I had a practice where I had to defend a pederast. I won and I've never felt worse in my life. And it was just a College work. It makes me unsure, a judge has to be neutral, so I can't get carried away with my hatred towards rapists and pederasts, but what if I try too hard to be neutral and I end pronouncing a sentence that is lower than it should? Or what if I'm so blind with my prejudices that I get a innocent into jail?

I can't even begin to answer Escriba's concerns, but it sounds to me like the police already have an idea. One can sure hope it's that, anyway.
Noncustodial parents who take off with their kids aren't getting any pass from me. It does decrease the chance of it being a murder, though.

Re: The Whine thread.
Anyone else out there have a GE refrigerator that just suddenly stopped keeping things cold sometime around 9/13/08? It started up again when we turned it down so now I get to see if that fixes it and wonder what the hell happened.
It just seems weird that it happened to both us AND my husband's ex on the same day, a hundred miles apart! I'm beginning to associate trips to see the grandkids with appliance disasters.
And while I'm ranting -- I hate digital controls that can stop working from a minor power surge. I want analog, but it seems like nobody makes them anymore. Our range periodically stops working (with a nice blaring alarm) because grease or soap or something gets into the clock controls -- God forbid you should have grease or soap near a stove!!! We usually can reset it a few times, but ultimately it requires $120 or so to buy a replacement electronic control panel. Meanwhile the kitchen was configured in such a way that the only replacement stove we can get is some expensive high-end down-draft stove also with digital controls -- it's either that or get carpenters involved. There's got to be a market opportunity there for some company that can tap into people's disgust with how fragile these things are. Even GE employees (there are a lot of 'em up here) say to make sure you keep a warranty in place. Next time (which alas may be very soon) I'll buy the cheapest refrigerator I can find and just assume I'll be lucky if I get a few years out of it, because paying more for quality just doesn't appear to mean anything anymore.
My neighbor went to town redoing her kitchen with fancy stainless steel GE appliances a few years ago and the refrigerator failed within DAYS. It was replaced, but she still can't stand it.

Don't buy GE. Buy Amana. Buy Kenmore. Buy Whirlpool. But don't buy GE whatever you do. GE is shit. No offense intended.
