Teeth cleaning + migraine aura + no medicine in the handbag.

:(

On the other hand, I was then so frantically focused on breathing deeply to head off the migraine pain that I didn't feel any teeth-cleaning pain at all. Of course, the hygienist was quite possibly so freaked out when her client suddenly turned into a crazy deep-breathing woman that she hurried the hell up.

Don't migraines know they are supposed to wait for convenient moments? Usually mine do.

Could have been a lot worse. Breathing deeply really does work, but it's a little hard to focus on while driving the car and being asked to open and close and spit. Also must shout out to the lovely Advil liqui-gels when I finally got home, though. Witness the fact that I'm looking at this bright computer screen right now. However, I think I'm going to go up and chill in my nice comfy bed for awhile. Let's not push our luck.

Yowie. You ought to get a triptan and carry it with you. Then you wouldn't have to retreat to the bedroom.

Image My sympathies. I don't get auras, so I go nowhere without meds. Good that the deep-breathing worked for you.

Ha! Yours are much more courteous than mine, hon. Take care of that head, now...

I get auras, but rarely get a headache. Weird, huh? That's me, though. I never do anything the normal way.

Hmm, that's a good illustration of a migraine, come to think of it.

You have my sympathies Alelou I hate Migraine headaches. It feels like someone is pounding an anvil inside my head when I get them.

You know, I shouldn't complain. When I was young they made me want to die (once I figured out I wasn't dying), but I'm much better at staying ahead of them now. I always get the aura, so as long as I'm awake when it happens I can interfere with deep breathing plus drugs and avoid the worst case scenario, which is pain plus nausea. So all in all I feel I'm still a lot better off than all you morning-sickness-afflicted ladies.

This depends on these suddenly not becoming more frequent, though. I had a friend in grad school who got them at least once a week. (She frequently blamed cinnamon, of all things -- she was French and couldn't stand how Americans put cinnamon in everything(?).) Anyway, I think that kind of frequency would make me desperate.

I love how Americans put cinnamon in everything.
I love cinnanon.
And all my family, too.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to

Cinnamon, eh? That's not one of my triggers (I like cinnamon too :) ). MSG, that's a big one. Air pressure changes--I found out about that when we went to the Grand Canyon (elev. 8000 feet). Got a migraine on the drive up, then another one on the way back down two days later. It was worth it, though. It was the Grand Canyon. Fabulous. 8)

I get a lot of migraines, but at least I'm not prone to nausea. Too bad the aura doesn't automatically come as part of the migraine package, to give everybody time to dive for their meds and head the thing off.

I heard a neurologist talking on NPR once who said he thought it was just crazy to casually ingest MSG. I wonder how the heck people decided hey, look, we can add this colorless crystal to food and it will taste better?

Yeah, the aura is my warning friend. It's even kinda pretty in a sparkling TOS kinda way as long as I don't need to read something through it. On the other hand, for my mother the aura was just plain blindness. Pretty scary.

Some people have smell and taste auras. That must be pretty wild. I would think it would be hard to recognize too.

I thought I smelled gas when I walked into that dentist's office. I don't know if I was just imagining it or if maybe it was really there and that triggered it (so far I've been proven right at least five times smelling gas in various places --which seems like a lot for one person -- apparently gas leaks are pretty damned common).

Usually I get these things when I've been stressed out for a long time and suddenly have a day when I can actually afford to lie on my back. Except for all the appointments and to-do list things I had to do yesterday, it was a day off work. I guess my brain circuit just decides to trip itself off for awhile. At any rate, I prefer thinking of it that way than feeling that it's utterly random.

Yes, it's evil. And food labels hide it behind all kinds of different names... "hydrolyzed soy protein," "yeast nutrient." You should see me reading labels in the grocery store. Oh, and aspartame? Don't get me started. Poison.

Not random. Stress is a trigger, but also "end-of-stress." Some folks get migraines at the end of their work week, or when they let down after a stressful event or an emotional crisis. I saw an interview with an actress who said that when she was doing a weekly TV show, she was fine during the week, but she'd keel over with a migraine every weekend.

It rains.
It's a week that it rains.
Stop, please.
A little bit of sun! :?
