Don't suppose it's been updated at all?
I guess he's off into Star Wars now.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
Honestly, I think it's bad, very bad that one doesn't finish whatever thing this one has begun to do.
Speaking of which: any news of "Chivalry Is Dead" By Peter Simons?

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
He just isn't really into it anymore. He seems to be in a pretty sour mood about Star Trek as a whole, for that matter. One can always hope that he'll get back to it some time down the road, but I'm not holding my breath.

No. No. It's not bad, or evil, or the end of the world. Writers who leave stories unfinished, they don't do this for the express purpose of making your life miserable. Something has gotten in the way, or something has changed. Perhaps they want to finish, want it very much, but they cannot because they have too little spare time, or no time at all. Or perhaps they've lost their passion or inspiration or motivation, whatever it was that started them writing in the first place. A writer trying to write without inspiration or love for their subject on some level, that's a recipe for crap. And I don't know any self-respecting writer who enjoys writing crap.
If Rigil has chosen another path, for whatever reason, for heaven's sake, wish him well.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
Yes, nobody maintains a passion like this forever. Rigil was amazingly productive in his.
I think I rented Enterprise two times over from Netflix because I was convinced a DVD purchase would be a foolish waste of money. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and since I was dragging myself back to regular work again I decided I deserved to splurge (mind you, on Ebay). And these DVDs still get a lot of use. But someday they won't anymore, and there won't be stories either. It just happens. Once upon a time all I could think about was Mulder and Scully. I don't think I could write one of those stories now to save my life.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
That's why I started on Lerteiran. I decline to speak for Distracted, but I have my suspicions, since she ended her series also. I like the Star Trek universe, and I believe that there are still an almost unlimited number of stories to tell. But they are not necessarily limited directly to the cast and characters shown on screen.

True. There is more to it than that!
I understand all reasons you are taking here.
Anyway, the sense of "UNFINISHED" stays over, and that is sad.

I agree with this in regard to myself. I hate having unfinished projects. I was hoping to get somewhere with time between graduation and OCS but I only started w/ 12 days, I'm down to 7, and I don't think i'ts going to change until I go and get back. But I do have a complete outline for YMAM 3, I just need to flush it out into a story. Ask JT, she said it was longer than the story of hers she was trying to get me to read

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
Isn't one of the first signs that your passion is waning when you stop being eager to read other people's stories? I think half the reason I keep writing my own is that there are never enough new ones going up. It's like, ALL RIGHT, FINE, if YOU'RE not going to entertain me tonight I'm just going to have to entertain myself.
Plus other people's stories can inspire you. (Or as in the last story, other people's reviews of other people's stories can inspire you!) Even if sometimes they just inspire you to say, nah, that's not quite it, I want to take a stab at that.
I just can't see plodding along trying to force yourself to write fanfic if you're not reading it for pleasure at the same time.

I don't think that's what he really meant necessarily. Remember that English isn't his first language.

Speaking for myself here, I do wish him luck, especially with the series he was going to work on in an attempt to get published, but that doesn't make me any less disappointed to see Endeavour sit incomplete, or miss his help on Foundations any less. I'm sorry, but I'm sad, and I really hope no one holds it against me for feeling that way.

Of course no one holds it against you, but like you, we the readers are disappointed also. I can only speak for myself but as a reader I invest a little of myself into each story which I really get involved in, (not as much as the author of course) but still some. I take time to evaluate the plot, characters, and specific passages i.e. the Lerteiran Chronicles.
The plot for me in this one was okay. I was really surprised on the role of rape in the story given some of the comments on the subject by the authors on this board. The unique characters created in this story was as real to me as the Enterprise characters. Aside from the plot and characters, it was specific passages which made me lol i.e. the Vulcan captain's thoughts on Archer, Vulcan's relationship with a maturing Earth in interstellar diplomatic relations are what made the Lerteiran Chronicles valuable to me so that I invested time into the story.
All this is what hurts when the author(s) might all of a sudden decide not (or make time in their own busy lives) to finish it.

No, I completely agree with you there.CX wrote:Speaking for myself here, I do wish him luck, especially with the series he was going to work on in an attempt to get published, but that doesn't make me any less disappointed to see Endeavour sit incomplete, or miss his help on Foundations any less. I personally can't let myself leave something unfinished if it's been posted. (If not, it might sit on my hard drive and collect virtual dust.) But I am a bit OCD. Yes, literally and medically. So I'm not being insensitive and mocking, lest anyone think that.
However, I think Rigil is an extremely talented writer and do hope he can publish some original work. Especially sci-fi, because there's a rather distressing amount of bad sci-fi out there.
But if he eventually squeezes time in to work on his Endeavour series and "Divergent Paths," that would make me quite happy.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
Rigil has said someday he hopes to get back to writting Endeavour stories but right now he wants to work on other things at the moment. Also his Zero hour story too.I really like his stories and am amazed at all the time and effort he put into them.

Re: Rigil's Endeavour website
I'm just going to assume Zero Hour is now as Zero-Hour as it's going to get. What's there is yummy enough that it's worth reading anyway.
Speaking purely as a reader and not as the nice, well-balanced person that I ought to be, and quite aside from any good wishes I have for Rigil (and I do wish him well) -- I consider where he left Divergent Paths freaking cruel. I wish I'd never started it.
As far as Endeavour and Janus -- well, it was a great ride while it lasted. You have the basic idea and you can guess where it might have gone. It feels kind of like a favorite series getting cancelled in the fourth year.
Those are the risks. Nobody ever gets a contract to finish their fanfic.
