Featuring a hairless Trip and T'Pol doing what they do . . . Sorry, she didn't say one way or the other.

Nope, I leave some things to the imagination. LOL Although, Family Secrets is my attempt to combine Enterprise with the tone of the HBO series Rome - serious stuff, funny stuff. . .plus a good helping of sex, drugs and drinking. And eventually jazz music. Plus I wanted to write the longest story I could in which they never even think of breaking up.

Bully for that.

A lot has changed in 20 years. I know women who were furry feminists in the 80's who would probably blush to think of it now.

Can't speak for Germany, though, in that regard. Seemed to me hairy legs was more of an American feminist thing.

And maybe the Internet is exactly where stuff that is the rudest proliferates now. Maybe that's considered the coolest and sexiest because it was so forbidden before. But I really don't really have a clue.

I have to say hearing about the history of feminism makes me like the more contemporary version, where you can be girly, and soft, and want a man for more than sex. Frankly hearing about the 60's-80's womens liberation scares me. It seemes to me the philosophy was very intolerent of women who wanted families and more oppertunities.

A bit off Topic. I know that there is a great volume of TnT Fanficion. Many shippers writing lots of great stories. also realize that there are Archer/T-Pol shippers out there. what volume
of Archer/T-Pol Fanficiion has been written. as much as TnT, less? Just curious, wouldn't read it but wondering. Of course I wonder why anyone would be an Archer/T-Pol shipper.

I don't know different people like different things. Why do people drink Pepsi?

Not to get too political, But when I was in college, I met with Gloria Steinem, often portrayed as a battle-ax in the press. She was lovely and charming and feminine - and talked about how important the rights of mothers were, even though she never had children. BUT, she also said that the notion that a woman "could have it all" was false and not promoted by her. She thought having a super-career, family and great marriage was too much for most women outside of the richest people - and that you had either make a choice or do one at a time. She talked also about the idea of man-haters selling newspapers and magazines, when in fact she was always straight, feminine and in loving, long term relationships with strong men. That was just my experience with one famous feminist.

Well, over at the Warp 5 Complex - there are more TnT fics to A/T fics at a rate of about 1/3 MORE for TnT. It's TnT(320) to A/T (208). That's not factoring in that TnT stories seem much longer. Of course, over there, the Trip/Malcolm stories outnumber every other pairing.

Meh I wasn't talking about any individuals. Just generalities. I don't care if they're philosopers or students all people are different even if they ascribe to certain beliefs it doesn't matter what they are.

Honeybee, I hope that the Trip/Malcom stories aren't Gay ones. I hate that Genre with a passion.

Sorry, Silverbullet. That archive welcomes all pairings, including gay ones. But they are clearly marked and archived in different sections, so you can find what you like and ignore you what you don't.

Seems to me that this is a relatively recent thing. When I was college age men shaved their faces and women shaved their legs and underarms. In the summer they'd shave the bikini area as well, but I don't remember all of this year-round total body shaving going on back then. Maybe I was just sheltered. I don't know. It's a younger person thing, too, I think. It seems that now almost every college student I see as a patient... certainly virtually every female... is hairless from the nape of the neck down or apologizes because she isn't. It's a fashion, I suppose. Even both of my daughters shave their arms, not just their underarms but the WHOLE arm. I have never shaved my arms. It would never occur to me to do so.

Trust me, it's new. It's not just "20 yrs ago to today" new, it's like something that's really progressed over the last 5 or 7 years. I've noticed it in women... like... when I was 17 or 18, it wasn't very common for girls that age to shave... other than the necessary parts... Hell not just that age, I mean really the only girls that "did that" were sluts. Well now it's totally different, not just for girls you'd consider old enough (or I'd consider old enough) to do that, like 19, 20 and above... I have a lot of guy friends at Applebees that date girls that age... 16, 17, 18... and I'll just say that now it's common for girls to start doing that REALLY young. Hell now it's common for guys, even.

In my industry, this trend is often credited to "Sex and the City."

Really! Hmm. Never watched it, maybe I'll ask my cosmetoligist (her word) sister. But didn't that start almost 10 years ago?

Also true. But it went beyond that. It had cultural and religous significance as well. I've been studying Ancient Egyption history since age 5.

So have I. And like many things in ancient cultures, things that begin because of practicality are often attributed sort of religious and cultural significance later on...but I guarantee if you asked the random Egyptian in the street, the not having bugs thing was of primary importance. People wore wigs to look pretty and for ceremonial purposes, yes, but without the bald heads becoming necessary because of parasites, they probably wouldn't have bothered. Superstition/religion often steps in wherever science falls short, or when something needs to be given the appearance of being cooler than what it really is. (As in, would you rather tell people you shaved all your body hair because you got bugs, or tell them you shaved because it pleases the gods?)

But you could also say that they started shaving to please the gods, and it ended up taking care of the bugs. Either way both are true.
