I'd like to stick this in front of the guy who wrote the "didn't even have a degree, learned what he knew about engineering working on boat motors" line and watch his eyeballs melt and his brain dribble through them

This isn't even comparably difficult, this is basic fluid dynamics -- there's like 6 years ahead of this before you're ready to work on something like the shuttle, not to speak of something like a warp reactor. Then you're needing more math and more physics!
