Judging from the way the department chair had the whole teaching packet and the two textbooks set out on the desk the moment I walked in, I don't think I really needed to worry. I probably would have had to be a slobbering wino to mess it up. So yes, I'll be teaching two or three classes next year -- the pay is awful but it should be fun. And maybe it will turn into a full-time gig at some point, which is what I'd really like. In the meantime, I should still be able to fit in freelance... if it ever picks up again.

And along the way I discovered from a friend that you can download "Foxit" and you'll then be able to fill out PDF forms without spending $300. 8)

Well Alelou...I hope it wasn't too much of a let down that the interview was not challenging! :? (This is the whine thread  ) So congratulations on your new job. 8) Anything that pays money, or saves it like that Foxit is a plus even if it is only a little.

Steal your dog?! Geez, I don't know about people sometimes, Warpgirl. Pets are so dependant it just hurts thinking about that. My parrot is so bonded to me that I would be devastated if someone took him.

Well thankfully my dog the terror that he is listen to nobody and gets away every chance he gets. Even from me at times. HOWEVER he ALWAYS comes home, he's bonded to me and especially my mother pretty good. What really get me is that this is supposedly a great neighborhood. I have NEVER had any trouble here at all. What's scary is that I live alone, and I'm in a wheelchair, I need my dog for extra protection. Besides life without him would be absolutely awful even if he is a terror. The cat and I would go crazy without him.

You're literally absolutely sure someone tried to STEAL him? Yikes. Like the pounds aren't absolutely full of abandoned dogs right now! So many families are having to part with pets they can't afford at the moment.

And yes, it actually WAS a teeny bit a let-down, Linda! We still talked for an hour or so, though, so I guess it wasn't for naught. And yes, any income coming in helps. We also just refinanced the house. Between the two things, we'll be okay for awhile even if I never get another lick of freelance. I was hoping to be able to sock away a little extra for Alejandro's college, but maybe he'll just have to get saddled down with loans like his father and I did.

Someone cut his leash and took his collar, so yeah I'm sure. But some neighborhood little boys found him running around so they brought him home. Jar Jar is VERY popular in this neighborhood. He's so friendly and a rascel so kids love him. BUT they wouldn't stel him, they like coming over for snacks too. This whole thing has me completely freaked though.

Is it worth mentioning to the cops?

I'm not surprised you're rattled. It must be a terrible feeling.

No not really. The cops can't do much about that here. I'm freaked though. He's my BABY I can't have kids of my own so the dog and the cat are my life, in some ways. The good news is like I said he'd NEVER stay with anyone that isn't me or my mom. It wouldn't matter how much they fed him. He's a disobedient terror but he's possessive as all heck, and I'm HIS. Period the only other person he'd consider HIS is my mom.

Great news, Alelou!

Wow, WarpGirl, that's scary. I can't understand who would want to steal a dog. Something more exotic or rare... but a dog? Maybe that person is mental (that is not about stealing something, but about just wanting to hurt.)

Congrats on your new job, Alelou!

Sorry about someone trying to steal your dog, WarpGirl. But have you named him Jar Jar!? :? What did he do to deserve that?

OK back off! I like Jar Jar Binks for sheer rediculousness, BUT that is NOT why I named him that. I found him (or he found me) at a rescue shelter. His previous "owners" took a baseball bat to his jaw. so it's crooked and hi toung hangs out sometimes. Besides my mutt is trouble and adorable, and utterly accident prone. It's a good name.

Sorry, no offense to you or your dog intended. But considering how most people think of Jar-Jar Binks I had to ask. :?

Not offended but as a card carrying member of the SW freaks I have to say they take it even more seriously than Trekkies. And I'm sorry but there is a little room for the rediculous in life or life wouldn't be worth living.

I'm coming late to this whine thread, so I don't have to offer sympathies this time, only congratulations and "wow, close call."

Yes, I also taught at a Community College long ago (introductory micro- and macroeconomics). It's not that hard. And I have no doubt in your English skills, Alelou! I'm glad you are going to share your knowledge with those all eager students . . . :? Or maybe you will get some continuing education adults who actually want to write? What kind of English are you teaching?
