Wow, with the way you say young surgeons are treated, I am not surprised that the medical insurance they have to carry is so high - think of what the risk must be for them and their patients!

As a "professional patient" I have to say I don't like it, BUT I am very greatful to some of those over-worked under-fed doctors and students that saved my LIFE because they were up when I needed them. It's awful, and I feel bad all the time, my family brings cookiees and coffee for them all the time. BUT I love them and I am alive because of them.

I thought I might want to be a nurse as I was growing up, but as I realised how awful and broken the medical system is and how overworked and underappreciated so many docs and nurses are, I realised I just didn't want to sign up for that. That of course is part of the problem: not enough docs and nurses. Vicious cycle.

Someone once told me we wouldn't have any nurses or other people in the helping professions if there weren't any daughters of alcoholics.

However, the pay and the demand has gotten good enough (and the rest of the economy sucky enough) that I see guys in their forties and fifties taking classes in it at the college. American demographics being what there are, you could hardly ask for a job with better employment prospects for the next twenty years.

s'true. there is always work. that's why i'm a cda....dental assistant....s'easier for me to tell a single dentist to shove it than it is to tell a hospital board to shove it.
