Today I changed my summer tires to winter tires on my car. For that I went to a 24h place at 3am thinking no sane person changes tires at that time of night. O how wrong was I. I ended up waiting over three hours to get the tires changed. In the end it took four hours total.

I'm actually hoping there will be a rally with some of the candidates somewhere close in Virginia. We'll see.

Safe travels, and hopefully the power will be on when you get there...

Thank you. Hopefully Sandy will have passed by Thursday.

Stay safe everyone in its path!

Fine up here in the Albany area. Classes were held this morning (much to the surprise and dismay of many of my students). One of our neighbors did lose a tree, though.

Still waiting to hear how it worked out for my stepdaughter on the coast of NJ, though. Last I heard they were without power and pretty freaked out by the sounds of all the debris flying around outside.

Stepdaughter and family okay. Of course, she works for AT&T and had to borrow a neighbor's Verizon cell phone to make the call...

OK, tomorrow I fly across the pond. Everything seems all right in the D.C. area, or where I'm going to stay at any rate.

I won't be online much since I'm not bringing my computer. So see you when I see you!

So,we didn't hand oit much candy.

Didn't take long for te storm to become old front page news. Today, nothing on the front page of our local rag. It has been moved to the middle of the front section.

election is it now.

will be more than happy when election is over. I hate those damned political calls coming in at all hours and the negative TV ads.

Just found this in our local yellow-press rag:

Scientists are still in the dark about the ancestry of Ötzi, the ice-preserved mummy of a man, who died in the high Alps about 5.300 years ago. The theory that he could be Austrian was droped, because remnants of brain have been found inside the mummy's skull. Italian ancestry had to be dismissed, because tools have been found. While a group of scientists maintains that the man had to be Swiss, because he was overtaken by a glacier, the majority of boffin believes him to have been of German descent, as nobody else would undertake a journey into the high mountains in winter, wearing sandals.

Today, (for here) itis bitterly cold just 54 degrees. since we average 103 degrees F during the Summer and in the 90 spring and early fall. this represents quite a drop.

Suppose you take your average Summer Temp, perhaps around 70 degrees and then drop it by 50 degrees where would that leave you? Freezing your buns off.

I have severe anemia dn a very low red cell count so I am always cold anyway. this is really hard on me. My wife, good German housewife, pens all the windows and doors in the morning to air out the place. Sigh

Hopefully by the end of the week we will be back to more normal teps of the 70'sand low 80's

Can't do that in south Louisiana, even when it's cool. You'd have all sorts of critters taking up residence in the house. We're firm believers in screened porches and air conditioning down here.

Jetlagged liked there was no tomorrow I slept for 12 hours straight, but now I'm back home in Sweden from my week-long trip to the Washington/Virginia area. I had a very good time.

I'm glad that it was a good experience for you despite the election-related craziness that I'm sure was going on during your vacation. As far as jet lag goes, I have one word for you. Melatonin. 8)

Well, I did get my fair share of that. Admittedly I actively sought it out, and being in Virginia made it easy. I'm not getting into details since I don't want to get political here...
