Me not-so-much,
although I agree that you have a right to be disappointed, I don't know if any injury no matter how minor is appropriate karma retribution. Even if I believed in karma retribution.

Not at all. I believe that people should and must face the consequences of their actions. Whether it be an unpaid debt or a henious crime. I just think that those consequences are not random. Getting bit by a possum has nothing to do with an unpaid debt. And I don't believe physical injury is a just consequnce for an unpaid debt. Therefore karma would be severely unbalanced id I understood the philosphy in college correctly.

Re: The Whine thread.
Well, I don't think that believing/not believing in Karma makes anyone a better person...though I can think of some people who may be more mindful of what they say and do if they believed that what goes around comes around.
Regardless, whether or not you believe, there is a certain poetic justice that my friend acquired this injury because of the very thing she spent the money on instead of paying me back. This doesn't mean I WANTED her to get hurt...but I do believe that the universe has a way of telling us things sometimes.

Re: The Whine thread.
I believe there are always conseqences good, and bad because of a person's actions. Therefore we should all watch what we do and say to the best of our imperfect abilities. I just don't think that there are random acts of punishment or reward as people define as Karma. When I had to learn about eastern philosphy in college I don't remember Karma being random. But it was 10 years ago, and my brain got fried by a lot of drugs over the last decade. All legal of course.
I have a whine: I am SERIOUSLY considering cutting out red meat, pork, and chicken, out of my diet. I know I said I could never do it but my health over the last couple of months, and some research into animal processing has made me do an about face. Here's the problem, if I were to do this I'd have to become a pescatarian. Sombody who doesn't eat meat or foul, but eats seafood. I honestly don't believe I can get enough nutrition going completely vegetarian with my health problems. The other option could be to become a flexagetarian, someone who will eat meat on a rare occasion. And when I say rare for me that means maybe once a month.
The problem is this, while I have been scouring vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian sites, I have noticed that 90% of vegetarians and vegans HATE and I mean HATE Pescatarians, and flexagetarians. Now far be it from me to criticize their beliefs, after all I think commercial animal processing plants have a lot to answer for when it comes to inhumane practices. The industry in general not specific companies. But that's not the main reason I'm doing this, I am doing it for my health. I don't believe it is wrong to eat meat if the animal is treated humanely. I don't want to be hated, and if I'm going to do this, I'm going to run into a lot of vegetarians and vegans who just might. I mean if I'm going to try and have the approximent life-style association is unavoidable. I'm scared.

Re: The Whine thread.
Um...why do you care what other people who don't know you think about your eating habits? Seems to me that if you don't want people to know...don't tell them.
And who said what I was talking about was random? Owes me money-->spends money on cat shelter instead of paying me-->sticks hand in cat shelter-->gets bit by possum who took up residence in cat shelter. Seems to me that the connecting factor here is the cat shelter--it connects to the money owed to me and to the animal that gave her the bite. Not all that random if you ask me.

Re: The Whine thread.
I wouldn't worry about what someone else thinks. Of course I still eat seafood.
In real life people tend to give me a hard time for not eating meat. As long as I'm clear that I only eat seafood vegetarians don't have a problems with me. They just don't like it when they get a plate full of fish because someone knew a fish eating "vegetarian".

Re: The Whine thread.
Right on.
And seriously, WG--you have made what seems to be a carefully thought-out decision about your lifestyle and eating habits with the goal of staying healthy in mind. NOBODY has any business getting freaked out and judgmental on you because you've chosen to exclude some meats and not others. It isn't anybody else's business what you eat. The "Meat is Murder!" crowd might not get what you're doing or why you're doing it, but I'm willing to bet that just about everyone here at THIS site will get it and support you, regardless of their own eating habits.
Personally I could never adopt a vegetarian or near-vegetarian lifestyle, but I don't begrudge people who do--at least not unless they get all militant and in-my-face about other people's eating habits. In the long run, you have to do what's right for you.
So really, I wouldn't worry about people you don't even know hating you over your eating habits. If they do hate you for it, then they're just jerks any way. They don't matter.

Re: The Whine thread.
Go possum? I don't know, but I do know some people who might have a recipe for that.
WG, just don't tell people what your diet is. The people who sell your food will just be glad you are buying from them. And yes, it is nobody's business what you eat. I do like your idea of trying to buy meat (when you occassionally do) from vendors who have meat from animals that were treated humanely. I think tags like "free range chicken" could be helpful. And I have heard that ostrich is very lean meat.

Re: The Whine thread.
I have no love for food-nazies. Warp Girl, do what you are comfortable with.
My brother in lay has tried a variety of eating styles, macrobiotic, vegetarian, vegan and then finally raw. One day he got into a big fight with his raw food friends about some choices he was making, and he just gave it all up and went back to eating a healthy, varied diet. They went all moral on him, judging his character over a food item!
I love the IDEA of vegetarianism, I'm an animal lover, but it's difficult. Especially if you live with carnivores like I do. I can't even imagine trying to get enough protein into a child with out feeding him some meat and fish!

Re: The Whine thread.
Well it's not really that I have a problem with people knowing what I eat. My concern is basically that there won't be a lot of support or groups where I can learn to do this in a healthy and constructive way. There just doesn't seem to be enough information, because there are so many carnivors, vegetarians, and vegans, who think that people like me are hypocritical. And I thought the mean vegetarian/vegan thing was a stereotype used to promote activists, I didn't really think it was "real" real. It just shocked me that people who are so passionate about "life" can be so cruel to humans (sapient beings).
