Germanyland is currently swept by a massive outbreak of ehec bacteria infection. 4 people already died, hundreds more fighting for their lives. The culprit: Vegetables that have been "fertilized" by dumping cow shit on them.
Even though I commiserate with the victims, there's only one thing that springs to mind - That's what you get for eating weeds. We didn't bloody make it to the top of the foodchain only to eat weeds. Eat the cow, istead of throwing its dumpings on some weed and eat it afterwards. Jeez

Some weed eating is necessary. Humans are omnivores, not carnivores. Fiber, trace minerals and vitamins all come from vegetable matter. It's usually customary to wash the fertilizer off of it first, though.

Kotik, from years of living in countires where we had to soak our Vegetables in either Iodine or Clorox and then wsh them throghly. Bettter even Peel them. I was suprised to find that in the U.S. and Europe the same thing is being done now.

I lived in Germany for eleven years and cannot remember doing anything but washing vegetables thoroughly. Did't need to soak them in anything or peel other than Potato's, carrots and the like.

Dis is right all Vegetables no matter where should be washed and scrubbed first before cooking.
