I'm glad Wasps are one of the few things I can't understand why God allowed on this planet. I'm trying so hard to learn these new embroidery stitches but the instructions are IMPOSSIBLE! Any advice? Does anybody else do needlework?

My laptop is in for virus removal and I won't have it back until Tuesday or Wednesday. We have a computer center on campus, but still. I can't watch the last few episodes of Firefly, can't listen to music...
I therefore came home for the weekend. Still, *sigh* I miss my computer.

Re: The Whine thread.
Ouch. I was feeling deprived just for the half hour or so it took for Windows to update tonight.
I have a pinched nerve or something in my back that radiates down my shoulder into my arm. It's so annoying. It comes and goes ever since I started hunching over this computer for hours doing my coursework but tonight it is really, really here. Lying down and relaxing with the cat on me to watch an extremely predictable if pretty chick flick didn't help (No Reservations, gah.)
I think I'll just go to bed.

I tripped in the commuter parking lot today. Real dumb, but the worst part is when my toe caught in the concrete, the top of my shoe pressedacross thetop of my foot so hard it's blistered now.

Re: The Whine thread.
No pain right now. I spent some time 'unwinding' my neck this morning so maybe that helps.
Anybody else ever do this? I discovered back when I used to meditate regularly that my head/spine would just start doing its own thing and I'd just go along. Later a massage therapist did it for me (supporting my neck in the process) during a session and she called it 'unwinding', which is the only reason I have a word for it. Very odd sensation of just letting your skull take the lead and go where it wants to go. I just hope it's good for me and not actually messing things up worse. There are lots of grinding vertebrae sounds in that early morning quiet.
Maybe it's time to anticipate some of my miserable adjunct pay and go visit the massage therapist again.
(I see on the Internet that there are all sorts of weird versions of this, including replaying old emotional traumas.
That's definitely NOT what I'm doing.)

The International Film Festival of San Sebastian starts today. Tarantino and Brad Pitt (Brad Pitt!) are here and I can't get out from my house because I have to study for the
exam
What's the good thing of having a Film Festival near your home when you can't go?
Oh, and Ian McKellen is going to come too. I feel depressed

Re: The Whine thread.
Alelou - 16 years ago I was thrown from a galloping horse and broke my 8th thorascic vertabrae, a compression fracture actually, and had whiplash. I had whiplsash two other times thanks to rear-end car accidents. I have intermittent nerve problems because of that. Tingling arms, aches, pains and when I turn my head it sounds like rice crispies all the time.
Have you tried chirprosctic? I went regularly for a few years and it helped a lot. Massage is great too, but it's expensive! Worth it, but expensive! Yoga, to can be very helpful.
My brother-in-law has one of those inversion tables, wher eyou hang upside down. I haven't tried it but he swears by it.

Oh poor Escriba Brad Pitt! Ouch!
I'm sorry for your pain Alelou I get pains in my neck that translate into seriously bad migranes. In fact I've had one for about three weeks, I was miserable last night, and it shows no sign of stopping. And yeah I have been hospitalized for these and drugged to oblivian nothing works for me. But I hope you find something to help you. Nobody should have to suffer like this.

Re: The Whine thread.
Thanks for concern, ladies -- and ouch! You sound much worse off than me.
I'm happy to say whatever it was has left me alone for the last four or five days, Halleluiah. I am thinking I might need to invest in a rolling backpack, though. Right now I'm hiking across campus with a brief case, a back pack, and a fairly heavy purse, usually all carried on one side. I've noticed a lot of the profs have the rolling thing going. I just don't know how that will work once the snow starts falling.
Anyway, I'm wondering just how early I need to get to campus Monday because President Obama is coming and they'll be shutting down roads and so forth at various times for security's sake. There's already not enough parking and backed-up traffic (well, by capital area standards -- these people have no clue what real traffic is). Fortunately I teach at 8am or 7:30am every day so it's no biggie for me to just get there earlier.
The students are very annoyed that the President is coming and screwing up their parking AND they won't even get a chance to see him. (Well, unless they manage to catch him in transit, especially since they'll be stuck on campus while it's happening anyway.) He's touring some high tech labs or something and giving a speech in an "intimate" setting.
I'm a little bummed out myself.
There were a bunch of new signs along the road to campus this morning that said, "We Don't Trust HVCC."
If this is the local Republicans' idea of protesting the visit, they really need to work on clarifying their message. If that's not it, someone else really needs to clarify their message...

Re: The Whine thread.
Definitely get a roller case. It saved my life in college, (this was when I was still walking) Backpacks come from some person who likes to induldge in torture. They are not for people with back other upper body stressors.
HVCC? What the heck is that? Are they trying to say HVAC? Because that's contruction. Really when people make up these abbreviations, I get confused. My best friend taught me the most commom internet speak but I still don't get most of these letters. It's irritating.

I'm assuming that HVCC is "Hudson Valley Community College".
