It can be done, if you want to badly enough.
enterprikayak's suggestion of roommates is a good one. Believe me, I've been broker than broke, but I've always found a way to improve my situation or at least hang on to what I've got. If I had to get a second or even a third job, I did. I've sold plasma--yes, right out of my own body. Financed my trip to England that way,
because I wanted to go that badly. I've also done it for gas money when I was short on cash. You just do what you gotta do, you know?
And if you're that low income, it seems to me you'd qualify for financial aid and grants for education in order to get a higher-paying job so as to not have to go to such extreme lengths in the future. There's also general assistance and food stamps. Try applying; the worse they can do is say no, and you're no worse off for trying.
