I didn't follow the movie discussions but I recall someone said something about Porthos being mentioned in the movie... and well now I'm at the part that they meet Scotty and he says like how he tested his transporter on Archer's beagle. I don't know if it's been discussed before but uhhh... aren't they like a hundred years after ENT, like how long is canine life expectancy supposed to be in the future?? :?

Maybe he had another beagle :dunno: :?:

I'm thinking he either had another beagle, or that Porthos at some point had come in contact with some strange alien being/substance/technology that extended his life for a ridiculously long time. Remember, the Companion kept Cocharane alive for a couple hundred years, and in "Miri" a contagion was keeping the planet's children from aging until they hit puberty.

Lots of possibilities!! 8)

Well...they didn't give the dog's name in the movie, did they? Perhaps it was Porthos' great-great-great-grandson? I can see Archer adopting another of the same kind of pet when Porthos passes on.

I've just watched the pilot of V (yeah, not very legally, but it's just one time, so please, don't sue me.) And I have... mixed feelings.

Incredibly enough I like the first episode of the old series more. Yes, even with those cheap special effects and cheesiness. I think that the first part of the old episode was better in describing the sheer awe and anxiety that something like a dozen of OVNIs over Earth would cause. They spent a good amount of minutes with the OVNIs just hanging there and everybody asking. And the plot seemed more centered in the aliens than the plot in the new pilot.

Yeah, the new V has incredible CGI, but there is a point in the episode where the plot just seems to wander with not specific destination. Until the last part. Which, by the way, contains some surprises I didn't expect. And I liked that, I liked those new things (but, at the same time, no; because I remembered the old series.)

But anyway, the new series it's not so bad and it has something much better done than the old series: the leading alien, Anna, creeps me out. I swear, it's like taking a beautiful girl that could act as a Vulcan (with the proper prostetics) and making her act like, I dont know, the Devil. She's scary.

...reading?

Since it on Monday is 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall I'm reading Frederick Taylor's The Berlin Wall (well, a translation into Swedish of that book). I'll finish it tonight or tomorrow since I plan on writing about the subject in the paper for Monday.

It's a good book that tells a lot about the history and the horrors of it. It includes a lot of anecdotes about escape attempts and how different states and politicians reasoned. It's jarring to see how reluctant the west was to take firm action and how they just accepted the fact that Ulbricht and Honecker erected this wall.

For many younger people today this is history, but I've lived it. I went to Berlin for the first time back in 1984 when no one could hope to dream that it would come down five years later.

The day it came down I was 5 but I remember my mother and I dancing around the house and crying because we were so happy.

Morena Baccarin's always been really good at that. She has the really dangerous attractive woman thing down... like Adria in SG1.

Or, if you could eve picture Inara with an evil bone in her body, she'd also be really dangerous, but of course you can't :D

Heck yes I can picture that trampy whore evil. I just watched the first five episodes of Firefly and I HATE Inara. I totally think she's evil! And when I say I just watched them I mean I finished the fifth episode five minutes ago.

Oh God! No love, not that kind of girl. If Inara loved him, real love I'd be cool. But that woman is well... I don't know quite how to describe her. I actually saw Serenity first and decided to try and watch the show, and she didn't truly love him in the movie, and she certainly doesn't love him in the show. I can understand why some people prefer River for Captain Tightpants, even with the age difference. Age is a number provided it's not just a sex thing.

PS Sometimes you are very endearing. :D

Oh man. You are merciless, WarpGirl.

I really like Inara. I'm not a big fan of her profession, but it's not like it's never been heard of in civilization before, and it's also got very different status in Firefly than it does for us now.

It isn't that she's a whore. Really that isn't the problem, the problem is she knows it hurts him, yet she doesn't want to give it up. It hurts Mal, if he didn't care I probably wouldn't. So I don't think I'm merciless. I understand what the creators had in mind for Inara, she's like a geisha who has sex. But she wants the power, stature, and money more than she wants a good man's love and honor. How is that love?

Yeah, I know :D But the most frightening part is that in V with her short hair she looks a lot like a Vulcan, but then she acts like a manipulative witch. It's really scary :)

It's as shocking as somebody as sweet looking as Yvonne Strahovski playing a trained assassin/spy role

You know I kept thinking, I know who that is when I say the previews. But the hair threw me off. Then I was watching Firefly and it clicked. She's one of those chicks that can pull off long or short hair. Lucky girl. But I still say Inara is nothing special.
