Local law enforcement as opposed to military action? THAT sounds perfectly reasonable.

*laughs crazily* I'm on drugs. Don't worry, they're the legal kind - I get a happy happy pill now. Well, it's supposed to help the anxiety problem that's supposed to be what's keeping me from sleeping and doing well in class anyway. Unfortunately, it has some side effects. Like today, for instance, when I was sweating like a pig despite being perfectly cool. :(

Don't tell the military. Made me jump through 12 months of hoops and finally see an aviation shrink before claering me with medical. When they found out I was perscribed an an antidepressant at one time, I mean.

I'm pretty sure the military wouldn't have much interest in me anymore anyway.

Turns out I suck at stick welding... a lot... Either I couldn't get started and the stick would weld itself to the metal as soon as I touched it, or I'd burn right through the work piece.

That disqualified you? That seems like that might just keep you from certain jobs... and... enlisted jobs I would think. You were ROTC, right?

I feel ya though. I'd be a damn pilot by now if it weren't for my stupid colorblindness.

I was, but what I'm talking about now is the lab for one of my Mechanical Engineering classes.

I was wondering the same thing!

I mean, since its a class you have to pass, bummer!

I look at a lot of essay responses to my quizzes & exams and think, "This kid sucks at grammer," or "This kid sucks at history," but those are often followed immediately by "This kid sucks at grammer, but he really loves my class and it shows in his response" or "This kid sucks at history, but his grammer and writing are fantastic." I'm always left befuddled on how to grade those exactly. I usually end up scoring the grammatically-inept history enthusiast higher than the historically-inept English enthusiast simply because I teach History.

So, after all that, I guess I'm hoping this stick welding thing is really something you can work around and still do well in the class.... :doubt:

For welding like that the only way I can keep from making a real mess is to rest my working arm across one knee, and usually help steady the working wrist with the other hand. Then weld a short stretch, pick up and move over, weld another short stretch, rinse and repeat. It doesn't work *well*, but it works.

We have to weld standing up on these little counters. :? At least I can wire-feed weld decently enough.

I can honestly say that I've never tried to weld anything in my life. I did almost sever my thumb with a dissecting scalpel in college, though, so it's probably a good thing for me to stay away from an activity where I might burn my fingers right off. :?

I've treated my share of corneal flash burns, though. Keep those shields down, guys! :D

If it's your cornea it's still just dermal tissue, RIGHT D!? So you can use anti-inflammatory eyedrops and antibiotic eyedrops!? And it will heal on its own b/c it's really just skin tissue, RIGHT D?! YAY FOR LASEK AND 'SKIN DEEP' :D
