It's been a hell of a week. Started out more "whine thread"-ish, but quickly became upsetting.
It's been very slow at the salon. I don't know if it's the economy, or if people are putting things off until closer to Easter, or what. It doesn't matter--I need to pay my phone bill, people!! Get a damn haircut already!!
So in order to do something productive toward rectifying this situation, Maria and I went to the mall to pass out flyers and try to get some new customers. Before we got started the phone rings and it's my veterinarian. I should back up here and say that a couple days before, we took Mr. Boo in because it looked like he was having trouble chewing; his breath's been KICKIN', so I figured he had some gum disease and needed antibiotics. THAT turned into also getting some blood work done, and giving him fluids...and turned out way more expensive than we can really afford but what are you gonna do?
So the vet calls with the blood work results, Compared to his last levels in September, his kidney levels are up, which is suggesting kidney failure. Not surprising, considering he's at least 16 years old and arthritic, and his arthritis medication is metabolized through the kidneys (natch). There is also the suggestion of pancreatitis, and she mentioned maybe getting an x-ray to see if there's any tumors!

OMG

I can't afford the x-ray, I just can't. Not now, not until things pick up at the salon. So for now we're going to be giving him subcutaneous fluids at home, switch him to prescription food, and do some kind of oil supplement to his diet that's supposed to help with the pancreatitis. I just went through this with Coco last winter. I'm not ready to lose another kitty.
And yesterday, I only worked a half day, because I attended the memorial service of one of my clients. He was only 31.
