*hangs head* My moment of possum-vanquishing high is gone.

So, my back has been hurting from all the stuff-in-the-garage moving I've been doing this week and I've been using this icy-hot roll-on stuff. Works wonderfully, but it has a tendency to make any exposed skin look red. Last night, Mom was out late with my brother for some ROTC thing. Today, she sees the red skin on my neck ('cause, of course, that's hurting too) and asks me if I've been preforming some self-induced strangulation thing she read about that supposedly induces a feeling of drug-like high.

Seriously. Not in a joking tone either, but a concerned parent tone.

Why me, I ask. Why?

I know, right?

I've tried to drown my sorrows in this wonderful fudge I made last night that tastes exactly like a chocolate orange, but it's really not working. Yeah, I can see where she's been having a bad week, but... I'm going to have to made something really special for dinner tonight and force her into watching Star Trek for the 42nd time and hope she takes it as a "feel better" message and not a "I'm trying to hide something from you so I'm being extra nice" message...

Piece of advice and you are free to totally tell me to shut up... Give you mother a big hug, and say "mom I would never do something so dangerous, and risk hurting our family like that I love you." Open honest communicaton never fails. Of course Dinner and ST is good too. I'm allergic to orange but hat fudge sounds incredible.

allergic to orange? That's the most terrible thing I've ever heard...

And the thing is I did exactly that (minus the hug, 'cause she was all dressed up for work and I was all, as has been stated, covered in icy-hot). Told her I'd taken too many science classes and watched too many crime/hospital dramas to risk doing that to myself, and that we'd delt with enough of that nonsense with my sister, etc etc etc.... But she has a short tolerance for these sorts of things because of my sister and has had an awful week, so... what can you do?

Well, that, and the fact that she's never quite gotten over the fact I have a tattoo. Which is why I've never told her about the other two and my intent to get more as soon as I've an income... but, again, what can you do?

Where to begin?

What started out as a minor pain in the foot has become me in a Wheelchair, or walking short distances with a cane. Loverly

Lost my Bookmarks, couldn't access them at all and kept getting message sign in if you want to access bookmarks. That didn't work at all. Everything else connected to the internet worked fine. I tried a few things and everything I tried made things worse. Now I don't even hat that toolbar anymore and I am not sure which one it is. I lost all of them at one time and managed to get most back but not that one. I have managed to get to my bookmarks in a roundabout way. aslo my e-mail. Nothing works as it should and I am tearing my hair (or what little of it I have left) out. As long as I can get to my Bookmarks it is something but sure would like that toolbar back and everything working as it used to.

Also, am losing my vision. One good Eye and it is failing me.

Compared to the troubles that you other people are having mine are trivial.

Jeez, I wouldn't call any of THAT trivial. Good luck with it. I take it the opthamologist has ruled out any surgical intervention with your vision?

Before you lose the use of that one good eye, you might want to try to get someone to install voice-recognition and text-reading software on your computer. There is stuff out there to help people with impaired vision to continue to function in the digital environment. Or if you have a decent public library system, they might be able to help. I know our library system has resources for this, and our college also has software that will convert text files into mp3 files for students who need to listen to texts -- any texts, even online stuff.

Foot Doctor doesn't really knowwhat is wrong so it is trial and error method.

eye, I got an infection in right eye. Doctor instead of treating it with Anti-biotics. scraped the infection out of the eye. Unfortunately, he was a little heavy handed and the bottom third of the Cornea is so thin that the Cornea specialist wo't touch the Eye as he says the cornea will crack and I will lose the Eyeball. I have calcium deposits and a Catract that heeds to be operted on and the speciliast wont do it. I guess I can find another but that one will probably say the same thing. The Doctor that messed up my Eye has disappeared and no one seems to know how to find him. Rule out a damage suit. It is the left Eye. I should try to rest it by staying away from the Computer, the TV and reading but that leaves sitting staring at nothing or sitting in a dark room staring at nothing. Can listen to music but one can only do that soo long.

Aint Life Grand.

So all that trauma happened to your GOOD eye? Yikes.

Sometimes it really is a matter of finding a more confident and experienced surgeon. (But then again, if the one guy is worried you'll lose your eyeball, that's probably a risk no matter what.) Still worth getting a second opinion, I would think.

aadarshinah, a similar thing happened to me many years ago. It was around Christmas time and I was putting my preschoolers into bed and I went to give my little P. a kiss and I screamed. He had a rope burn around his neck. Very clearly a rope burn. I asked if someone had tried to strangle him. He said no, they had been playing "reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh" and he had been at the front pulling the pretend sleigh with his neck. *sigh* So this time ONLY (sorry) I will side with your mother. It's very scary.

Silverbullet, it might be fun to listen to some books on tape or get some podcasts off the Internet. I don't know how to do that, but get someone to help you. Do you have an I-Pod? On most new computers there is already a function, some button such that you push it and it reads the page to you. The loss of the bookmarks could be related to a browser update. I just recently lost my bookmarks in an update. Yesterday, I discovered my mom is also having trouble seeing to read the computer screen. Again, your problems seem quite formidable and your attitude is admirable. Maybe call in the geek squad from Best Buy to help you with an IPod and modifications to your computer? I want you to stay conntected to us.

I logically understand where she might worry, but do hope that she trusts me enough to, idk, TELL HER if that happened. But oh well. She'd a terrible day yesterday. I can understand why she overreacted as she did... But my plan of nice dinner + homemade pie + enforced Star Trek watching (for what we determined was the 42nd time) + her being left to her own devices after that with Netflix hooked up for her weird british murder mysteries worked, so go me.

And, after 4 hours of scrubbing, 1.5 gallons of bleach, 1 bottle of dish soap, 2 air fresheners, and 10 latex gloves the garage is clean enough that... well, it wasn't as bad as before. It's going to take another couple of days of intense cleaning to get anywhere near normal, but you can breathe in there now. go me.
