Rats are resilient, clever survivors. They get a bad rap, bubonic plague and all, but that was really from the fleas on the rats. The rats carried them everywhere because as evolutionary winners - rats live and thrive nearly everywhere.

And yes, the cute fluffy ones make great pets.

LOL. They may make great pets, but my brother had two that a teacher talked him into taking and they were ugly grey things (no fluff) who grew humongous tumors and one bit my finger hard enough to puncture the skin once (granted, I'd been holding pepperoni in it so I'm sure he got confused).

My son wants rats if our longlived gerbil ever passes and I said NO WAY.

Gerbils are much cuter and don't pee as much. They're Vulcans. (Actually, they originated in the Mongolian desert.)

w00t! Another one here. And according to this, it's specifically the year of the fire Dragon for me.

That explains sooo much. :vulcan:

Thanks for the link, I verified that as I am from a Water Dragon year, the next one will also be Water Dragon. Suppose it has special attributes... (apart from 60 yrs. old :( )

Yeah... it's interesting. For fire they have this: "In Chinese thought Fire is associated with the qualities of dynamism, strength and persistence; however, it is also connected to restlessness. The fire element provides warmth, enthusiasm and creativity, however an excess of it can bring aggression, impatience and impulsive behavior. In the same way, fire provides heat and warmth, however an excess can also burn."

Huh. Pretty spot on for me. Kinda freaky.

Oh, crap! Year of the Monkey for me...

:evilmonkey:

Well, at least I wasn't born a year earlier, in the Year of the Sheep.

OK what's wrong with either monkeys or sheep? IDK what year 1984 was. Probably something like year of the goat. Now that would be lame.

OK random... I'm watching a behind the scenes of the new Wall Street sequal. And guess what, Shia LaBouf just said the technical stuff is and I quote... "Like Star Trek talk if you don't know what you're talking about." :guffaw:

All the talk of how awesome rats are, given their utter evolutionary awesomeness, reminded me of the blog Animal Review.

They are most famous for giving an F to Pandas.

Ladybugs get an A-.

King Cobras get an A+. As they say, do you want to be the person who gives King Cobra an A-?

And Jellyfish get a C-, which is pretty good for an animal with no brains.
