Just came back from a weekend of celebrating a good friend's 40th birthday  We were somewhat,...erm...inebriated last night (240 bottles of beer in a house full of guys is a bad idea), but since he is 40 and unmarried, according to german tradition he had to ride on a donkey through the village, sitting backwards on it, in woman's clothing. Best fun I had in ages :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Problem is - same thing awaits me in 2014

Good God. Get to work, man.

My brother got married after 40, or just around it. He complimented his future wife on her eyebrows. I still think that had to be one of the least likely pick-up lines ever, but hey -- it worked.

Oh, Kotik, that's... insane. Is that just for the guys, or any 40yr old who's not married?

It's tradition in northern Germany that, if a male isn't married by the age of 40, he has to do the donkey thing. Was fun though. The ladies painted his finger nails, his toe nails and slapped half a ton of lipstick on 'im. The tranny from hell, I'm still ROFL'ing. Four years from now, it'll be me to waer the makeup

Theoretically a woman is referred to as Fräulein as long as she's unmarried, regardless of age, but it is considered impolite to refer to a elderly woman like that, even if she's still unmarried.

Good news? Saved some money and cancelled my purchase of the bowflex dumbbells. Happened to drive by and see a gym nearby ( as close as my old gym was back home ) and decided to go in and check it out. Thank God for the economics of supply and demand -- my tiny, tiny little gym back home charged twice as much as this place and this place is 5 times the size and as nice if not nicer. Must be a college town thing.

Kinda funny side story.... I had my mother take in my key FOB and my rent paperwork to the old gym to get it cancelled (they wouldn't let you out of contract unless you can prove you moved somewhere there isn't an Anytime Fitness). When she sits down with the lady she says she can't place my name to a face... so she looks me up... and she's like "Oh my god, he was here a lot! He was here as much as anyone else who doesn't work here!"

Oh, good for you Elessar! Yes, that is probably college town pricing. When it grad school, it's always good to have an escape from your house and the library to clear your head. Getting out to a gym is perfect for that, plus you might meet some interesting people! You made a good choice.

My happy news: I managed to do a full crow position in yoga for the first time this morning. I was not as elegant as the model in this picture, but you get the idea.
