Well, hey, tea and British imperialism are actually fairly closely related, aren't they?

Yes! :D Very much so. All the British involvement in China, for instance, was primarily motivated by tea. Or more precisely, the problem that the Chinese didn't want British goods so buying tea (and silks) was steadily pouring gold into China. Balance of trade = very bad.

Now that I think about it, balance of trade issues with China... the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Jadizikathrn, It wan't Tea it was Opium that the British made the chines buy in exchange for their Silver. Tea and silk were a sideline, That is until much later when those became the main Trade items.

or it's just me that has the problem?

Ps. it's ok now...strange

I went ahead and ordered the remastered TOS DVD sets, all three seasons. They cost the equivalent of $55.6 each and I'm guessing that's not all that expensive considering the usual price for Trek DVDs.

I never got the non-remastered versions on DVD and they're apparently not available anymore. Pity, because I wanted those too.

Yes, what I meant was that because the British wanted Chinese goods, esp. tea and silks, they had a balance of trade problem. Then some bright spark in the British East India Company realized, "Hey, we own a good chunk of India now. There's a market for opium in China. Now, suppose we make the Indians pay taxes in opium. That's like getting it for free. Then we sell it to the Chinese. Aha! Finally, we've got something the Chinese will buy. So we won't be pouring all of our gold and silver into China."

This, of course, led to the First and Second Opium Wars, and the downfall of imperial China...

The Opium Wars forced the chinese to buy Opium from the British in exchange for their Silver which the British coveted. That was the start of the Opium Dens one hears about in china towns. British were to blame for the Opium addiction among the chinese.

You know... fear is behind the corner.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Depends on the scenario. Relieved on the 'full-scale robotic uprising' front, saddened on the 'spacefaring intergalactic megasociety' front.

So, wait a minute - you can buy T'Pol in her proper uniform, but you only get Trip in his full-on EV suit? Oh, the injustice...

But I might be freaked out if it were a detachable EV suit. That would probably be even worse... A Ken doll Trip.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
