TOS at the Albany Airport

We popped into the Albany airport's lovely little gallery (adjacent to their flight observation deck) when we got back from Florida yesterday, and were quite amused to see the following as part of the exhibition "Out of this World."

This is constructed from spools of thread. If you look through the little glass ball, Spock is right side up.
(
Spock 3 by Devorah Spender)

These were laboriously constructed using the upright ends of chenille sticks (aka pipe cleaners). By the same artist, can't remember the exact titles. Maybe
Spock and McCoy and
Mirror, Mirror.
Didn't catch the artists, but for context, here's another installation there made up of plastic dinnerware...

And one of a number of funky pencil creatures...

Yep, quite small but very charming as airports go.

Pipe cleaners? That must take heaps of patience.
And, of course, artistic skill. (Neither of which are among my talents.) Wow.

Albany Airport looks less like a dull airport and more like an art museum! Colorful, I like it. General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee is quite a large airport now, but I haven't noticed any art there, darn. But we do have a small museum of aircraft history tucked into one of the shops in the vendor area. My husband is on the board for this museum so I go there fairly often.

Well, the terminals are just your basic terminals (though there's a rather nice meditation room). The art gallery is upstairs and quite small, but it's a nice little feature. A flight deck to let you just hang out and watch planes land and take off is kind of fun too. Unfortunately you have to go back through security if you want to do it while you're waiting for your flight, so it's not something you can really do except in transit.

Where was all of this stuff 3 years ago when my flight to the Cleveland convention was delayed by several hours? I just sat there and watched them working on all of the planes, while my anxiety grew. It seems I should have visited the art section instead. They also have a huge fish tank there...or used to anyway. The thing that I like about that airport is that I can drive to it now...all by myself...with only minimal anxiety.
