On Embedded Images:
Just to let everyone know, for the time being I'm indulging this for the time being if you'd like an image or two included in your story. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.
On the Heading:
This has happened a few times already and I want to nip it in the bud. The way the website is set up for navigation is for all stories to include the same style of heading on the website, so a prospective reader can get the same important information about them. There is an example of the heading, coding and all, on the submissions page, but I'll post up a copy of it here:
The Rating and the Disclaimer are a must for every story and every part/chapter of a story. If they aren;t included, I'll either PM or email you, and the story will not be posted until I have the information I need. The other things are optional, but highly suggested. And don't forget that last bit of code along the bottom - that's what draws the line between the heading and the body of the story.
For Multi-Part/Chapter Stories:
I create a kind of sub-index for stories that have three or more parts/chapters to them. Please let me know ahead of time if this is your intention. The sub-index also includes pretty much the same style of heading as the parts/chapters of the story are also supposed to have, so you can do one of two things for the Description: 1) write a unique summary for the entire story and therefore a unique summary for each part as well, or 2) create a basic summary to use for the sub-index as well as each part. My default so far since many of the stories were hosted on other sites that didn't have any kind of sub-index has been to use the same exact heading as the first part/chapter in the series.
Also, when you've finished the last part/chapter of your story, please indicate that in the email you submit it in. As you might have noticed on some of the other stories that have already been posted at GoF, I include a status indicator to let any potential readers know if a story is complete or still in the process of being written. So if you don't let me know that it's done, it will eternally say that it's "In Progress".
Just to let everyone know, for the time being I'm indulging this for the time being if you'd like an image or two included in your story. However, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- Attach images to the email along with your story submission or provide your own external hosting via Photobucket or some other host. It's fine to put it on the .doc file to indicate the placement of the image, but just doing that won't make an image appear when I go to write put it up on the internet - I need a url to use as an image source. Now, I will host these on my own Photobucket account, but keep in mind that I need the image, and that it takes time for me to upload them and copy down their new urls.
- If the image isn't your own original work or is otherwise copyrighted, you need to site the source, and provide a link to the source, and even then you need to make sure it's cool to use that image. If it's posted in a public domain and you don;t see anything about copyright anywhere on the page, it's probably cool to use it, but you should still provide a link so the appropriate people can get their kudos. If there is any doubt at all, contact whoever posted the image - most websites include a means to contact the webmaster. This is to cover my ass and keep GoF from getting shut down over a copyright infringement.
- Images must be within the body of the story - below the horizontal rule that separates the heading from the main part of the story. If you indicate the image anywhere above that line, it'll automatically get moved to just below that line and above the text of the story. I made exactly one exception to this because I copied the story from where it was hosted on TriaxianSilk, and to be frank trying to rearrange the story to fit the standardized format for GoF would've been a long and painful process.
- Going back to the first point again, it takes me time to upload images on my Photobucket account, and it can also get a bit complicated if there are a lot of images involved. As a result, if I get a lot of stories that have embedded images, my notoriously short patience is going to give out and I'll probably stop allowing embedded images just to save myself some time and frustration.

What does everyone think of how I handled the eBook hosting? Should I keep it that way?

Re: The Guardian of Forever
It suits me fine. My question is, should I even bother making ebooks out of the others? Is there any interest?

Re: The Guardian of Forever
I thought fanfic already was an e-book, since you could presumably save it, so apparently I don't even know what an e-book is.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

Re: The Guardian of Forever
It's a PDF of the story - just look at Bnb's Virtual Season 5 page.

Re: The Guardian of Forever
I took the time to assemble my first story into one PDF file in book format. With a Table of Contents, Page numbers, and hyperlinks to chapter headings.

Re: The Guardian of Forever
GREAT!

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.
