I'm just thinking that if you want rarely-noticed jewelry for one reason or another, anklets are the way to go.

Just a factoid did you know that for centuries women who wore anklets wore them to identify themselves as whores? But would anklets work in those boots TnT wear?

A thin, fairly tight one probably would. Maybe made out of some neat thin, strong alien metal?

Glad you think so. :D I like it because it would be subtle.

Though it might be noticed in decon eventually.

Well that's why I said no traditional rings. Claddagh rings could work, but I'm wondering if there is another symbol from another culture. Asian African you know?

So, if their goal is to keep the marriage secret, the logical solution is no rings at all. Of course, Trip might balk at that, bless his traditional li'l heart. In which case the claddagh rings might be a good compromise.
<back in a minute...>
Okay, I didn't know what a claddagh ring looked like, so I went and checked online. Sorry, but if they want their relationship under wraps, they shouldn't be wearing these. Nothing subtle about the hands and the heart.

How about they exchange class rings? Trip gives T'Pol his Florida State ring (or wherever he went to school), and he gets her <Fill in the blanks here. 'Vulcan Science Directorate Perfect Attendance' ring?> Since the rings wouldn't fit, they'd have to wear them on chains around their necks.

As for anklets... uh, not for Trip.
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

  OK crazy question that has NOTHING to do with this, how the heck did you come up with T'pol's clan name? Oh and who said I had to be completely rational? ;-)

I shamelessly stole her clan name from black'nblue's 'want of a nail' series.

The day I become completely rational is the day I'll start demanding it from everyone else. (In other words, don't hold your breath.)

I've been lurking in this thread without saying anything because it really is just a question of "do whatever you like".

I wrote a story where TnT are married and T'Pol wears a ring - but it is clear that she does this to honor Trip's traditions and other Vulcans find it peculiar.
But there's no secret involved with their relationship. I actually like the idea of a claddagh rings, since there is the Irish connection. But Transwarp is correct, if worn on the left hand and with the heart facing the heart - it's not a secret.

I also think that in the future, engagement rings and wedding rings will continue - but they won't necessarily be diamonds. They can already manufacture diamonds nearly perfectly - in 150 years- I imagine this will devalue diamonds - so I picture people just using whatever stone they like. I have Malcolm buying a red mars gem for Hoshi because he thinks she looks good in red. In another story, Trip buys T'Pol an alien stone that changes colors in the light (though not by mood).

It's also an in interesting question to ponder, what would any alien culture think of wedding rings to begin with? Would they find them too extreme or too light? I've seen a lot of fanfics that have alien cultures including Vulcans - employ more permanent methods of marking a marriage - such as scars and tattoos. I can see other cultures doing that, but I don't know about Vulcans. The whole telepathic bond thing seems more than enough. Rings might seem kind of a cute gesture in the face of that.

But I do agree that wedding rings will continue in human culture. They've been around since pre-Christian times and have been adapted by cultures across the world. We humans like them.

Well thank you for saying something Honeybee. Of course I realize that I can and should do what I want, because this is supposed to be fun. Therefore not doing what I want will make it cease to be fun. NOT GOOD. But people's ideas are inspiring even if I don't take them.

Transwarp do you want it fast or GOOD! I could rush you too, but I won't because it's worth the wait. Patience. Just promise me an honest review and I'll do my best.
