I just finished reading Asso's new story I reallyenjoyed the first part from T'Pol's pov. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens during Trip 7 T'Pol having shoreleave together.

May I say one thing? Many societies, isolated females during their cycle. In many they were not allowed to cook food and had to go live in an area set aside for women at that time of the month. Superstition mostly. But much of the ancient world was that. Seeing what my wife and Daughter go through I am very glad that Males are spared such a thing. That will teach women to go around eating Apples. Just Kidding.

Well, the feminist POV is officially that this is discriminatory and horrific. I can't sometimes help thinking it would be awfully nice to just go off and retreat from the world at a time like that. Especially since, for me, that's ALWAYS when I catch whatever is going around.

Even the most obnoxious, discriminatory custom usually has something going for it. Burquas mean you don't have to worry about a bad hair day.... and you don't need to suck it in, either. Guys can't really stare at you (except they do anyway -- they obsess about the drape of your Burqua or your feet peeking out ... there's always going to be something).

Admittedly I am not an expert on Islam, but if I remember correctly Muhamad only said that women were to keep their faces covered. Not everything. And in ancient times bleeding without the benifit of modern products had the oppertunity to make people sick. I don't think it had to do with hating women at first at least. But so many things get corrupted.

As with all sacred texts, how religiously you take their admonishments really depends on your sect, your traditions, your cultural identity, your political leanings, and your personal religious beliefs about what the point of that admonishment was in the first place and how best to honor that.
