New Fanfic Up!

This post is actually about Old Fanfic Screwed Up, and it's not even at our site. I just went to do some comfort reading at Trip T'Polers and ShouldKnowBetter's Golden Lads and Girls is linked to some other story (it's hers, but damned if I know the title).

I'm afraid to click on Rainbow's Foot because if it's gone I'll have a panic attack.

Anybody still keeping watch at the shop over there?

IDK - that's interesting. I don't think they're changing any links though, so I would be surprised if anything's gone awry.

I checked and everythings looks fine. I clicked on Rainbow Foot and the story was still there (big sigh of relief, I have read that story so many times). Also my other favorites were there to read:Let the angels wait and There are no shadows in the dark and Rigils work and...

Yeah, actually, I went and copied and pasted the thing just to make sure I'll always have it. And now that's the only fanfic I've bothered to do that with since XF days.

However, I'm at a loss to find Golden Lads and Girls. But that's not really a favorite, I just thought I would check in on it again. Something's definitely screwy with that link.

Golden Lads and Girls is still listed under Shouldknowbetter's name. The story is actually an alternative ending to the series beginning with A Logical Proposal and ending with The Rainbow's Foot (happy ending) and/or Golden Lads and Girls (not so happy ending).

You know, for some reason I liked Golden Lads and Girls as the ending better. Maybe because from what I remember of the series (pretty dark), it was more appropriate to the whole tone.

Yeah, I know it's listed. But if you click the link, it takes you to a story with an alternative Trip and T'Pol from another universe coming into this one, where TnT have never even considered a relationship. I didn't remember that story being an AU ending to that long series that begins with A Logical Proposal. I also have no idea how she could have used that title with this story.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Golden Lads and Girls followed after The Rainbow's Foot, as a sequel to explain what happened to Trip's and T'Pol's kids, etc. etc. There, the title fits.

Am I crazy? Anyone out there remember the alternative universe I seem to be living in? Have I got my titles confused?

The Rainbow Foot and Golden Lads are alternative endings to the same series of stories. Beyond the Rainbow is a sequel to the endings. So it's no wonder you got them mixed up. My favorite always been The Rainbow Foot, don't remember much about the Golden boys and girls. Thanks for the link, it was a joy to read that fic again (while my kids are playing hide and seek or something.... must check on them before they tear the house down )

Honestly, to me Golden Lads feels like a stand-alone. I think it's excellent that way. As a finale for that series, though, it's depressing as hell.

Beyond the Rainbow really does get ridiculously silly at the end, as the author goes ahead and notes, but up to that point it's a joy. I love the way she writes TnT, lovingly bickering and irritating each other right up to the end.

I've discovered that even when a story "disappears" from a site, it's usually still there somehow. You just have to google the title directly and it's still there in cyberspace. That's how I replaced chapters of "Chivalry is Dead" and "Learning to Live Again." They were "taken down" at HoT along with all unfinished stories. And yet, if you google them, they are still there! I'll bet Rainbow's Foot will always exist. Twenty years from now if you can't find it, you just go to the Star Trek holo-Internet site (being hopeful) and say, "Hey, anyone got a copy of "Rainbow's Foot"? lol . . . .

I like the idea of having access forever. Years ago after living out of a backpack for a year I decided it was pointless to hold on to a copy of every book I ever enjoyed and might someday want to read again. That's what libraries were for.

What I hadn't realized is that librarians spend a lot of time WEEDING because, guess what, they don't have limitless shelf space either. So maybe Barbara Pym enjoys a little revival in the 80's -- that doesn't mean you'll find your favorite titles by her in a library again in 2009. So now I have to keep all these yellowing books around, just in case. It's annoying.
