Re: The Whine thread.
That's very naughty behavior by FF. I just posted a chapter and it looks like they improved the Word import a bit. It used to have a nasty habit of putting comments and old changes into the posted document.

Re: Character Archetypes
Can anyone here name a completely original character that doesn't fit one of those. Try it. OK, let's see how well they fit. The description for Apollo is: Businessman/Traitor Apollo is the image of the prince who is in training to become king. He is quick and sharp in his reasoning. As a master of...

Re: Character Archetypes
From a modern view point, all of the Greek gods were bat-shit crazy, so using them as archetypes doesn't seem like such a good idea. I looked through the archetypes and tried to fit my friends and family into them - didn't work. I like to have characters that are more like real people and I try to b...

I started to lose interest during the TNG movies. I still haven't seen Insurrection or Nemesis.

Re: Abrams Trek
Just watched the 2009 movie with my son (he had not seen it before). Obviously the target market for "Into Darkness" was 10 year old boys as he preferred the second movie to the first (he liked the first one, but the second has more explosions).

Re: question about Malcolm/Hoshi knowledge of Romulans
In TOS, the explanation seemed to be that the Romulan War was fought ship to ship and there was no personal contact. From ENT some Vu!cans (e.g. V'Las) knew and anyone else is open to speculation. If Malcolm and Hoshi learned somehow there would need to be a reason for them to keep it secret.

Q and the holodeck are the two pieces of Trek I loathe the most.

Tell them you want to run the department and you'll go get an MBA (at their expense). You never know, they might go for it. You have the experience already, once you add the credential you're golden

Re: Abrams Trek
It's often said that action films do well in the non-English speaking markets because you don't need to follow what's going on as much. Whether that's true or just Hollywood logic I can't say. I took my ten year old son to see this one and he really, really liked it, even though he hasn't seen much ...

Re: Abrams Trek
I bet the second one didn't make nearly as much money as the first, though. It didn't get the repeat visits from happy Trekkies that the first one got. Well, according to Box Office Mojo, the 2009 film made $258M domestically and $128M internationally. Into Darkness made $228M domestically and $236...

Re: Abrams Trek
The biggest problem I see is that it will be impossible to slow down the speed of these movies for the same reason there will be more of them - it made money, lots of money. Not only that but it got good reviews overall. So we're unlikely to see Enterprise doing anything interesting (like interactin...

Re: Abrams Trek
OK, finally got to see it. Frankly, you're all a bunch of curmudgeons. The opening set piece was great. One of the things I liked about this movie was putting the ships in relationship to things we understand (people, skyscrapers) so you really get a sense of how big and awesome they are. The plot a...

Re: Braga Discusses The Original Idea Behind 'Enterprise'
It does make you wonder how anything decent gets produced when you have people in charge who think that having boy bands appear on a show (any show, really, but a show set in the future especially) is a good idea.
