Re: Did T'Pol NEED the Trellium D?
Nah... she didn't need it beyond helping her to tolerate a bad situation not because of her feelings for Trip but her fear of dying at any moment. I think it was an adjunct to her grief over the total futility of the situation. Given she already had P'nar's syndrome which could have been blamed for ...

Re: The case for young marriage
My dad got into a singles group here in our area... I started getting invited to different functions and met some very nice men. But my dad said he didn't want me dating any of them... cuz he knew them and their um... habits. I thought it was hilarious that my 65 year old dad was forbidding me from ...

Re: The case for young marriage
Young marriage? Speaking from experience... was married at 21. Thought I knew everything. Bad choice that lasted 12 years. Then was single for 10 years. Dated at least 100 men.... once. Get out and about, meet people, as many as you can if you are serious about finding a partner. You'll never know w...

Re: "Mirage" discussion thread
Just to add to the cringe factor here... my grandmother was forced into prostitution by the Germans. My uncle was nearly decapitated by a drunk German soldier at home. My mother saw the worst in men, day after day. They were in one of areas of Holland that was most oppressed. I was astounded to find...

Re: Is T-Pol a Couger
I found out something interesting about cats... each kitten is in a separate placenta and the first mating... in which no kitten results... triggers ovulation for the next mating and so on. Maybe Pon Farr in the male is like that... it would explain the contracted mating period. Each successive mati...

Re: "Mirage" discussion thread
My parents grew up in Nazi occupied Holland. The stories I heard growing up were pretty horrendous but I don't remember my parents saying anything about Germans as negative as what I heard coming from Americans. Ex-husband was a curator of a local museum... the propaganda in the US surpassed anythin...

Re: Is T-Pol a Couger
Yeah but... aren't we judging Vulcans by human standards. We are the virtual bunnies of the universe able to reproduce before we really are capable of caring for our young adequately. We go to great lengths to prevent pregnancy until we are financially and emotionally ready. Our ability to control b...

Re: Is T-Pol a Couger
Yeah but... isn't T'Pol at puberty sexually? She hasn't even had her first Pon Farr yet nor is she at an age for reproduction. If anything she's way younger physically than Trip even though she has experienced more in years. I doubt that humans would put human teenagers at the helms of ships as they...

Re: Science and Fiction in Science Fiction
It's ironic that we talk about cross planetary species hybrids and how approving or disapproving we are... but cross mice and wow. Maybe we aren't as enlightened as all that? And maybe its okay to discuss this sort of thing in a fiction story but real life... well that's different? And then again ma...

Re: Science and Fiction in Science Fiction
In a mammalian pregnancy, the placenta is attached to the uterus by little buttons that attach and separate like velcro, peeling away as the placenta is cast out of the body. The blood supplies are indeed separate unless there's an accident. Daughter in law nearly lost a full term infant thanks to a...

Re: Science and Fiction in Science Fiction
I agree... write what you want, you're only limited by your imagination... Now... what if all life in the universe was seeded through either intelligent intervention or accidental seeding through comets. Or the progenitors... Or an even more drastic view... what if God... or "god", if you ...

If I were you I'd just write your science on a basic liberal arts college grad level and you'll satisfy 90% of your readers. Especially when you consider the reader has the average reading level of an 8 year old. I worked as a senior TA for 2 professors at WWU in the psych department editing thesis...
