Re: Archer as Captain

Right! That's a good point, and by Damage - the crew has realized that the Sphere Builders are a threat to everyone in the whole galaxy. Perhaps Archer should have mentioned that to the Captain - but then again - Archer's been met with skepticism by his allies before. Or maybe Archer just didn't thi...

Re: Archer as Captain

I got the sense that the alien Captain was firm in his decision, trying to do right by his own people. He shuts Archer down. We only got one conversation (it's a pretty dense episode) and then things move forward pretty quickly. Although I think I would certainly discuss helping Archer with my crew ...

Re: Vulcan clothing

Welcome! You've come to the right place. Check out the media/artwork threads many screenshots. Although I can't endorse the Season 1 or 2 unfortunate catsuit, T'Pol's civilian wardrobe as well as her later season uniforms would be something to model. Also, Enterprise has several other Vulcan females...

Re: Generational Designations/Names

Yes, the big stuff - wars, cold wars. . .global economics would probably be the same. The smaller stuff - television shows, music, fashion - would probably be a little different, a little the same. We've got a border with what was the USSR, too, and I think submarines lurked all around the Alaskan c...

Re: Archer as Captain

I mean when your civilization and 10 Billion (give or take) lives are at stake, it's probably easy to develop a "if you're not for us, your against us" attitude - and start thinking of the people who are nice but won't give you the one thing you need to save your planet as an enemy- especi...

Re: Generational Designations/Names

1968 puts you firmly in Gen X - KTR. Of course, these are American designations and based in American cultural experiences - some of which others share, such as The Cold War. So, it's possible that in Sweden, the groupings would change slightly.

Re: Archer as Captain

I agree that Trip probably would have felt some guilt over it - perhaps after the fact. It's possible he did, we just didn't get a chance to see it. However, let's look at this from the opposite end - would you maroon yourself for three years, at risk but not in immediate danger, in order to save 10...

Re: Archer as Captain

I'm going to disagree about Trip being OOC stealing the warp core - and stay on topic! Right from The Xindi/Expanse episodes, it's clear that Trip's moral lenses have been changed. He's the one who makes Archer promise they are going after the Xindi hard. In Twilight (after Earth is destroyed), he's...

Re: The Upsetting News Thread

Our 12 year old little Jack Russell passed today. :( She was terribly old and unhealthy, so it's a release.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are a gift to us that care for them for a short time. Even though its a release from pain, you will miss her. Be well.

Re: Archer as Captain

I agree that the decision was morally wrong, it was a horribly wrong thing to do, yet at the exact same time it was the right decision based on the situation he was given. Totally agree, Brandyjane - it's easy for all of us, in our comfortable safe little lives to judge what Archer did - because an...

Re: Randomness

This is a very cool short documentary about the making of an Ikea Commercial - that involved releasing 100 real housecats into an Ikea store when it was closed.

Re: Archer as Captain

In Shockwave, its made clear that Archer has a bull in a china shop reputation - and the incident with the perrogan (sp) colony is a straw that broke the camel's back in terms of Starfleet being fed up with Archer. Simply from a dramatic perspective - since the ship is out in space and Starfleet hea...

Re: Archer as Captain

Today in my classes - we were reading a combat piece about the Iraq war - and all the mental trauma. It's funny, it reminded me of Hatchery. The officer who orders his men to shoot - and it turns out to be civilians - has to suck that up. But he practically jumps in front of a gun to prevent his man...

Re: Generational Designations/Names

You're definitely right that wars seem to define things - either fighting in them or being born during or after. My older brother was born because men with children were not being drafted in MA at the time. He was born in 1968 - and definitely is a Gen X guy. And I think there are loose edges - and ...

Re: Archer as Captain

I'm going to disagree with you there aadarshinah. I got the impression that Archer was going to swallow that guilt so hard - stuff it down with all the other ugly things he did in the Expanse - from the torture of that guy in the airlock, to the creation of Sim to the stealing of the Warp Coil - he'...
