Re: Non-TnT pairings

Actually, if you dig very deep into the fandom - Trip/OFC or as I call them Trip/Mary Sue fics were somewhat popular during the first two seasons of the show. They seemed to have died out after Trip hooked up with T'Pol. On another note, I was just thinking how many weird pairings there are in this ...

Re: Generational Designations/Names

I had a serious Gen X moment yesterday - driving around on a beautiful fall day, REM's "Radio Free Europe" came on the radio. *sigh*

Re: Archer as Captain

The only specific rule we know if is that you can't date a superior officer, which does not contradict T'Pol's assertion that she and Trip can date since they are the same rank. This rule is talked about in "Home" when it is made clear that Archer and Hernandez broke up when he was promote...

Re: Creativity Soundtrack

I heard the Flight of the Conchords "Business Time" once only and I knew I had to make a Sex trek vid of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3r19yxDDqko Utterly Brilliant. I love the Flight of the Conchords, after all they are New Zealand's 4th most popular parody folk duo. And if anyone i...

Re: What are you...

Clueless is the best movie version on Jane Austen's Emma - better than the period versions because it captures the spirit of the character so well.

Re: Archer as Captain

As a Trekkie I still wanted it to retain its optimistic humanity, but I thought it was refreshing to see a painful acknowledgment that war is never pretty, even when you're the good guys. Yes. Every iteration of Trek reflected the times - and ENT did that in its third season. I do think DS9 explore...

Re: Archer as Captain

But to handle them as a group of war/combat veterans seams so inplausible to me and quite contradictional to the atmosphere of the social/historical developements of the time of Enterprise in the episodes before. Right. Hatchery indicates that the MACOs, while well trained, don't have a lot of expe...

Re: Archer as Captain

Actually, Enterprise could have used a few more decks and had a permanent MAACO unit assigned. B&B have been pretty open about the fact that Malcolm was originally conceived at a MACO and there was to be a MACO unit aboard from season one, but the network vetoed the idea saying they did not wan...

Re: Archer as Captain

Especially in a time of crisis, decisions have to be made quickly. Dithering can be disastrous and even in small groups consensus is difficult to reach. Someone has to make the call. And even as one is analyzing things in retrospect - one has to account for the pressure, fear, adrenaline and time co...

Re: Archer as Captain

I actually have to correct you on that point, SB. The Commanders on NASA shuttles can and do give orders, as do the Captains of civilian aircraft. I am particularly aware of this through having covered Space Center Houston/Mission Control as a reporter. Nasa does exist somewhere in between civilian ...

Re: Archer as Captain

It's interesting to note that much of the criticism of Archer is leveled at him either for 1) not being military enough or 2) being too military. It's pretty well established that Starfleet is more a a Nasa-type organization in the first two seasons, and there's little expectation of violence or com...

Re: Archer as Captain

He knew it was bad. T'Pol told him that he had said he did not want to lose his humanity but by doing this he would be and that once he took this step it would be easier to do the next time. Archer admitted this but said he had to do it and no more argument. Absolutely. And whether or not Enterpris...

Re: Archer as Captain

I'd rather have someone hate me and resent me rather than see the entire galaxy swallowed up by a bunch of evil, inter dimensional squatters. Those aliens wouldn't even have the luxury of hindsight or hate or resentment or a big, fat moral high horse - if Archer & Co hadn't stopped the Sphere Bu...
