I do miss Waffle House. And pecans make almost anything better.
Ran into a Waffle House outside Scranton, PA once, so they're not just in the South. None around here, though.

Re: Randomness
Oh yes, definitely. But I had a student who really was OCD about it, I think. It was bizarre. He just couldn't stop fussing with it.

Re: Good Morning
I haven't nuked grits, but I would expect them to work fine. The trick with properly nuking a single serving of steel cut oats is to cook three minutes, stir, put them back in for two, then let them sit another minute before serving with goodies. (Also, having a tall enough bowl to cook them in that...

Re: Good Morning
It all sounds good to me. This time of year my preferred breakfast is steel cut oats cooked in the microwave with sliced bananas, with a little maple syrup and cream on top. Yum. I should probably try grits in the microwave one of these days. I wouldn't feel the need to add syrup to those. Just butt...

Re: Status and Support
You can only do what you can do. I suck at it right now. I haven't touched North Star in months and months. Had a couple of pokes, too. I haven't even been reading fanfic, and I'm way behind reading the books of various new indie novelist friends. Everything just takes so much time! That is somethin...

Re: Randomness
David, I am interested to learn that you can buy a right-clicking Mac mouse. Will have to tell my Dad, though he seems to have adjusted and might be better off with FEWER options. I'm sure Linux is a good thing, but every student I've ever had who gets into such things seems to have had an obsessive...

Re: Randomness
I'm told Windows 8.1 allows you to go back to the desktop. I'm hanging onto this noisy machine for as long as it lasts. I've worked on both Macs and Windows machines, and I just find Windows cheaper. Also, once you get used to right-clicking, doing without is extremely irritating. (My Dad has a Mac,...

True -- but it's nice that she was able to admit she was wrong. There is a bit of a stigma still out there (and others who simply have no idea what it is), so I'll take this conversion with gratitude!

Re: New Fanfic Up 2013
http://mythicscribes.com/miscellaneous/fan-fiction-epiphany/ Nice article about someone overcoming her prejudice against fan fiction. And here is my recurring apology: I'm miles behind on reading and commenting (and writing, for that matter). Sorry. Just spent a week down in Florida with the folks, ...

Re: New Year
Same here. Happy New Year! I'm off to Florida to check in with my folk and take them some freezing temps. Meanwhile have been desperately trying to get my office and room ready for the painter while I'm gone. I think I managed it. God only knows. I'll try to check in while I'm gone. Hopefully I will...

I tracked down Anna Hess. She's had enough of space travel and is nesting on the planet, big time: http://www.amazon.com/Anna-Hess/e/B004YEICRG/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1 (and her ebook about cover crops is free today). Merry Christmas / Happy New Year / Happy Whatever Else You Celebrate My resolutions t...

Re: The Whine thread.
I sent you an email, Beth (you're still at AOL, right?)
I'm pretty flexible until the 6th, barring appliance/plumbing scheduling still to be done.
That includes next week except for the 25th and 26th.
Sandy

Thanks, Bether.
You people who are so prepared for Christmas -- all I can say is arghhhhhhhhh!
I've been seriously procrastinating this year. On everything.
