<pet tangent>

In '99 wee wee Priso & I were married. (I had to get the phone and rent agreement as I was 19 and he was not yet.) So, out in the world living in a 4th floor character apartment looking out on an actual fairyland-type manor castle among oaks, we decided to sanctify our union with a kitten.

To the SPCA!! And there were black kittens. We played with one thru the bars and it was so sweet. Gently, I lifted my new friend out of his prison, when he latched-yowling-and-hissing-onto-the-flesh-of-my-neck and hung on spitting. I ripped the kitten out of my neck flesh and threw it back in the cage, grabbing another at random before the attendant slammed the door shut.

That dear random 2nd kitten became the dear sweet black beast you see above, gently nuzzling my leg. We got his "little" brother Winston in 2002 (top picture), and Mwnci (the black cat) had several metaphorical aneurysms over the addition, at length accepting him as a warm punching bag/biting toy.

They grew to enormous proportions given that Priso & I had nothing better to spend our money on than the *best* cat food etc. Also, the building was heated to a Jurassic state from September to April by way of hot water. If you dared turn the thermostat down, the heater would contract and dribble water onto the wood floors. If you wanted to not get wet, you left the heat "ON"....all day and all night. You opened windows to adjust the temperature. Ahhhhhh, character buildings.

This open-window fourth floor business almost got Mwnci killed when he was only 8 weeks old. We'd had him not 4 days (hadn't even snapped a picture yet), when he managed to somehow slip into the bedroom where the window was open. I heard a cat yowling its brains out, looked down, and there was Mwnci four floors below on the cement! So I grabbed the phone and bellowed to Priso that he HAD to bike 10 km home from work (in the baking August heat) (he'd had his birthday by now and was a strapping 19 year old lad.) because Mwnci had fallen out the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiindow! And so he did. Bike home and practically have a coronary over it and we got in the car (I couldn't drive yet) and raced the poor yowling thing to the vet hospital and I'm all hysterical, and the cat's coughing blood and I'm certain he's an internally mushed up doomed kitten. And the vet takes him away and looks at him and comes back out and goes, take him home, he's fine. He's bleeding from his cut chin and his wee punched nose, but that's all.

And we're all, *sniffle* "What?" *sniffle*
And the vet's like, "yeah, he's fine. That'll be $100."
And we're all, "No! It cannot be! You must OBSERVE THE KITTEN!"

And so we left him there for another day at great expense, but he really *was* absolutely fine. He just had a sore chin. AAaaaaaaand then he spent then next four years or so biting anything that moved. But he's a fine, relaxed nearly-nine year old fellow now.

Then we bought a house and got the nose-licking grey business man kitten James up there. He has No Time For Cuddling. He is all busy and will Push You Away. Except any time anyone sits on the toilet, he runs straight up, as business-like as you please, and you *must* wiggle your fingers through the fabric of your pants at him so he can bite it. He is like clockwork. Also, if anyone sneezes, he mrrrwps in reprimand. Priso has a repetitive sneezing problem sometimes, and James chirps in reprimand through the whole thing.

Even if he's asleep. In the other room.

The dog is a slightly-mental 70 lb DalmatianXGerman Pointer who we rescued 18 months ago from a shelter. He is Dallas. Hey! Like the convention!

He is looking at porno.

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

Forwarded to me from my boss:

Jennifer and Jim kept getting huge water bills. They knew beyond a doubt that the bills weren't representative of their actual usage, and no matter how they tried to conserve, the high bills continued.

Although they could see nothing wrong, they had everything checked for leaks or problems: first the water meter, then outdoor pipes, indoor pipes underground pipes, faucets, toilets, washer, ice maker, etc. -- all to no avail. One day Jim was sick and stayed home in bed, but kept hearing water running downstairs.

He finally tore himself from his sick bed to investigate, and stumbled onto the cause of such high water bills. Apparently this was happening all day long when they were not at home. Knowing that few would believe him, he taped a segment of the 'problem' for posterity:

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Well, I finally got around to having some pictures developed.

Here's my dog taking a nap:

Here we are by the Christmas tree (this is after her first stroke):

I'd already decided to put her down at this point, but as it was close to the holiday, I elected to wait until the Friday after Christmas. Apparently that was a mistake.

Here we are on her last morning. She had another stroke at about 0400 and she could no longer use her right rear leg, which was stickign straight out. When she found she no longer had the use of that leg, she got really scared and kept trying to push herself up using her front legs, and she wouldn't stop whining. We knew that this pretty much meant the end for her, so we waited until the vet opened up and took her in to have her put down. So I sat there and held her as best as I could for four hours to try to calm her down. Eventually she seemed to calm down and accept that it was the end for her. I think it was after we tried using some towels to try to lift her up into a standing position and it didn't help her any is when she stopped whining and didn't try to stand any more.

such a sad story for such a sweet pooch.

I hope she had many many many happy doggy years!! Now she's with the rest of the good doggys chasing squirrils through grassy fields and drinking out of giant toilet bowls.
