I think the Bud Light cans for nacelles is what makes it "redneck." And I was raised in Redneck Mecca...I'm not one myself, but I will confess to my neck being a little pink sometimes...yup, it's the Bud Light cans that make this Trekkie a dog lover AND a redneck. ;-)

(...wondering if I can get cat to wear something like that...)

IDK if you could possibly live in red neck Mecca Aquarius here in the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Rige mountains, I think we've got the mid-west beat by miles. Still there are people I'd love to show this too because they're always on my case for being a Trekkie, and yeah their necks are red.

Um, where I grew up, at least 50% of the homes in the area were capable of getting a flat tire, and the most common pick-up line used by men was "get in the truck."

If red neck area means most dangerous area...I think Aquarius wins hands down...or should I say 'hands up and get in the truck'?

Redneck areas aren't dangerous per se. It just means there's a higher proportion of people who either farm (thus the term -- a red neck is what you get when you bend over in a field all day), or live in rural, farming area, or identify culturally with the values generally found in rural farming areas.

Of course there are all sorts of things generally associated with the values, including beer cans, pick-up trucks, Confederate flags, and guns... Put together the beer and the guns and a general feeling of outrage at the way the world has been going since the South fell in the Civil War together and I suppose it COULD get dangerous....

Not necessaily Confederate flags! I'm from Illinois and, except for the Chicago metro area, the majority of the state is rural. And, I would also say, a bit Redneck. And we, as the Land of Lincoln, are Yankees.

Well, New Jersey is not part of the South either, but Confederate flag stickers and license plates are still a pretty reliable indicator there. Same here in NY.

The Confederate flag doesn't really refer to a geographical location in history anymore. It's a state of mind.

One of Connor Trinneer's college buddies posted a VERY funny picture of himelf, Connor, and another friend posing like body-builders wearing nothing but shorts and some kind of white stuff (mud?) on his facebook page. I don't want to "lift" it from the site, but if you are on facebook I recommend you check it out. It's in the "photo" section.

I understand what you're saying about the confederate Flag, but it's rare that I see them around here and I regularly traveled the state while was working.

Now this time of the year you DO see a lot hunting rifles and deer carcases on top of the pick ups!

I DO know the definition of red neck that Alelou was explaining. I was just responding to Aquarius's description of a very dangerous area! As a dangerous area, her part of the world certainly is in the running for 'most dangerous area'. :?

Up here we call them hicks. And I object to the times when TPTB tried to make Trip into one, whatever you call it.

It's a funny pic, though. Patient, long-suffering dog.

Well they might have tried to make Trip a bit of a hick, but it was obvious that TPTB had no idea what a "hick" from Florida is actually like. They've lived in LA too long.

I read an interview with Connor Trineer where he said Trip's accent was more "hick" than Florida, since he grew up in a rural area and "hicks" all sounds alike.

My husband works in advertising and he is constantly fighting the New York and LA advertising world perception that everyone in "Flyover" country is a hick, redneck, uneducated, ignorant, uncultured, provincial type etc. I think a good thing that could come out of Obama's presidency (and maybe even our Olympic bid) would be that maybe, just maybe, we can get a little respect here in the middle.

Boy - are we off topic.

Go look at CT ccovered in mud or whatever. I can post a link if anyone's interested, but I'm not sure you can see it if you're not on facebook.
