The Happy News thread

Hi, I thought we needed a "Happy News" thread to balance out the "Whine" thread. I'll start.

One of my best friends, her daugher just graduated from college as an atheletic trainer. Apparently to get a good job in this field you have to pass some kind of board certification test, in addition to having a degree, and you have do some additional years in graduate school, getting a masters. So this young woman was on her summer job/internship working as an atheletic trainer at a soccer tournament. Two girls playing soccer went into cardiac arrest on the field! (It turned out later they were both alergic to the fertilizer on the grass.) My freind's daughter revived them both! She saved two lives, at such a young age! She kept her head through the crisis and called the paramedics and did everything right, apparently. So at the end of the day, her supervisor came over and offered her a job and her way paid through graduate school! How's that for a happy story?

Wow, justTripn. That is a happy ending to what could've been a very sad story. I can't imagine how the parents must've felt as their girls went into cardiac arrest. Time to stop using that fertilizer. And I can see why your friend's daughter would make a great hire if she kept calm through all that.

Way to go Elessar!

My happy news at the moment is a little strange, but here goes: they had quinoa pilaf (Wikipedia on quinoa) for lunch and I actually liked it. I'd heard it was such a great food, and thought, oh no, another superfood that I can hardly choke down. And then it was vegan, and I find the university's vegan choices a little suspect since I tried the most flavorless vegan brownies. (It takes a lot to mess up brownies.) But it's actually really good. Now I can't wait until they serve it again.

But I'm still staying far, far away from the vegan carob cake.

The next week, exactly Friday 15, my wife and I will celebrate the wedding anniversary.
Well, now... :? thinking of that, perhaps I understand the true reason for T'Pol became so appealing for me.
Remember you her stubbornness?
There, precisely... my wife...

Yay JustTripn-- I like this thread! And your story is so inspirational (we always hear about young people only doing bad things-- I sincerely hope that your local media covered that story!)

My good news (shhhh... I'm really not supposed to tell anyone ): My boss sat down with me today to review my progress this year and he let me know that he's already put me in for a promotion-- hopefully before the end of the year. And then he said some really complimentary stuff about my work ethic and how all of the other managers and some of my coworkers with whom he's spoken could only say good things about me *gets a little misty-eyed*.

Especially good news since the contemporary teacher who taught the most inspirational class of my life (back in June-- I've never danced like that in my life-- I was emotionally exhausted after his class and depressed that I probably wouldn't have a class like that again...) is coming to teach at my dance school and I'll need the money from a promotion to help me pay for the class!
