Re: The Happy News thread
My 26 year old son is now (finally ) a college graduate! As of today he is the proud holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies. He graduated with a 3.0, which is pretty darned impressive considering how badly he messed up before he figured out what he really wanted to do. Apparently what he really wants to do is to teach middle-schoolers. Go figure.

That's excellent. Hope he gets his wish (and can handle those hormonal creatures).

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Teaching middle school? That will keep him busy. And if he gave his parents a hard time at that age, it will be poetic justice, I think.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Re: The Happy News thread
His childhood years were challenging. Not deliberately so, but parenting a child with ADHD is never easy. It breaks your heart to see the things they go through, getting tormented by peers and misunderstood by teachers... and all the repeat trips back to school to deliver forgotten items and the last minute scrambles to help him complete forgotten assignments took their toll. But he was a loving child who never meant any harm and now he's a well-intentioned and idealistic man with lofty goals that I pray he will attain. After all the struggle it's both frightening and a relief to be forced to step back and let him take full control of his future.

Many congratulations, Distracted. There's not much worse than having to cope with what a child who's in any way 'different' goes through in school - it fairly tears your heart out, how cruel other kids can be. However, he and you got through it, and now you can look forward to a happy future! Well done to him, indeed!

Re: The Happy News thread
My son has ADHD too, along with a dollop of depression and anxiety, just like his dad. It's kind of ironic that I was glad we were moving to a state with rigorous standardized tests to keep the schools honest when now I can't help thinking that he'd be doing so much better if he'd grown up like I did, in states without them.
Anyway, he's a genuinely nice kid with a better head on his shoulders than he thinks he has, and I suspect a year of working low-wage jobs might persuade him that it's time to reconsider going to college.

Re: The Happy News thread
I think you're right, Alelou.
Life is often a great teacher (although, sometimes, it tends to be a little malignant).
