I'm enjoying it too, although here in the UK we're probably not in sync with the episodes you're watching. The writers seem to be desperate to surprise the viewers, with the backstories getting more complex every week. I haven't decided whether that's a good thing. The sexy young alien girl seems to be used mainly as an emotional punch bag, which is a shame.

The discs are apparently some sort of Indigene tech. I'm assuming that being installed with one as a kid is what's causing the girl's visions. I'm actually much more on board with that concept than the whole shamanism thing. Maybe it's also got something to do with why the biker gang boss came back to life at his first funeral in a previous episode. Maybe he had one too. If the discs are sort of a "super soldier plug in", I wonder what will happen to the girl now that she's lost hers. Or maybe she hasn't lost hers and the unit successfully prevented its own removal.

Yeah, it's not at all clear whether she's now Indigene Super Chick or what, but the vision of the other girl suggests there's still some vision stuff going on. (Thank you for spelling Indigene. I need to go look up how these things look written out and maybe then my memory will finally kick in.)

The guy who came back to life was actually healed by nanites according to the story, so I guess we could call that SF instead of fantasy if we want to. I'm still pretty fuzzy on what the hell happened in that one.

There's a LOT of punching and worse going on in this show! Gritty doesn't even begin to describe it. But it suits the setting.

We get the season finale next Monday, Cogito, if that helps you figure out where we are in comparison to the UK. I'm curious enough that I might actually remember to watch it on the day it airs.

I guess I missed the nanite references.

Isn't Daytak's wife a trip? I had started feeling sorry for her a little until she went all psycho-masochist in the last episode when the mayor's sister threatened to expose her.

"Yes... my husband does treat me like shit. Isn't it wonderful! I love him so much. He's so strong..."

What's the problem? A damaged alien ship that was going to crash into the planet sent some nannites to Earth to kill an alien, reanimate the dead body and use it to send some commands up to the ship telling it not to crash into the town. Because, yeah, that's the most logical way for the ship to stop itself crashing into the town, isn't it? :dunno:

LOL. I do occasionally wonder if they've complicated everything so much just so we won't have time to stop and think, "That's ridiculous!"

And yes, I'm right with you on Daytak's wife. She's the true evil genius. Or is it the doctor? The men in this show seem much simpler than the females. I love that, even though I suspect the writers are just channeling their inner frustration with mysterious females.

I loved the political conundrum of the last episode too. Even in the future, politics is puppet theater to persuade the masses while the true battle is about who gets their hands on the money.

Who saw the finale?

I'm a little annoyed that it seems to have gone in the direction of all mystical again, although I guess there could be an SF explanation. The wiry effects were very cool but I won't pretend to have the slightest idea what was going on there. (Hopefully that's vague enough to not require a spoiler warning.) Maybe their web site will explain it all for us, who knows? (Do they even know?)

Mostly I'm sad that we have to wait until next June for the next episode.

Just watched the finale on TIVO. Grrrrrrr. And they're gonna make us wait eleven months? Jeez.

SPOILER!!!:
I can't think of any scientific or even remotely technobabbly way to explain long distance resurrection after multiple gunshot wounds, so I get the distinct feeling that the next episode is gonna aggravate me to no end. Do you think the writers even know how they're gonna explain this episode? I'm thinking they just wrote it for the shock value of killing off a main character and figured they have 11 months to come up with something that isn't total bull****.

I wish them luck. I wouldn't want the job, that's for sure.

Hey... I know! They'll watch everyone play the game and read everyone's Defiance fanfics for the next 10 months and see if any of it gives them an idea about what comes next.

Ugh. I hope not.

And yes, all that stuff in the spoiler box would also be my fear.

So, who watched the season opener of "Defiance"? Anyone? Is it going to survive, or is there really only a single car ad that they run during every friggin' commercial break (I saw it on demand).

I still enjoy it. A little worried about whatever is up with Irisa (or however you spell it).

Wow, that's weird in today's age of nearly-instant pirating. Or maybe not. I have friends who saw all of Downton Abbey before it aired here.

I liked the whole "let's talk honestly" discussion between Alack and his mom. Very interesting.

She's definitely one of the most interesting aliens ever. Really curious to see what happens when hubby comes back. I think he'd better watch his step...
