Food update,

just gave the Prime Rib a good rub and bagged it. Two days to cure before cooking....

Kotik,

Rubbed it, i.e. took a dry seasoning mix and massaged it into the standing rib roast. It will will infuse the hunk of cow with flavor and to insure the effect, it is placed in a bag and the air is sucked out. Then into the fridge for a few days....

But y'all ain't really gonna cook it, are you? I once ordered rabbit in a Spanish restaurant and it was cooked  That was the most revolting meal I ever had. I was on a date with a rather hot lady, so vomitting wasn't an option :?

So delighted to have power back after two days huddled about the wood stove without running water and a smart phone that died too quickly.

Now must clean the refrigerator while it's conveniently empty since the outage lasted just long enough (12 painful hours longer than the power company estimated) to force everything that was in it either onto the back deck or into the chest freezer or into the garbage. We also have to figure out how to replace all our fire alarms, which (we only now notice) say "replace by 2005" and made it clear they needed it in this most recent outage by chirping maddeningly for at least an hour straight until my husband came home and had the brute strength to pull them out of their connections.

So ... one of these days I really will catch up with all the recent fanfic, but I don't think it's going to happen before Christmas.

And in the meantime I'm going to go take advantage of the seasonal supply of dark chocolate.

Oh wow,

Well, find some peace. Glad your power is back on. Reminds me of about 6-7 years ago when we had a bunch over for Christmas Eve dinner and with about an hour before everything was due on the table, we lost power for about 18 hours. had a lot of fun though.

Regardless

Merry Christmas Alelou!

Is it an official "cinnabon" kit or one from scratch? I miss Cinnabon -- I never see them around here anymore.

I spent the afternoon doing dishes and cleaning a refrigerator and putting away candles and hurricane lamps and coolers and making use of some hopelessly defrosted shrimp (yum). Tomorrow I need to fit in making a carrot cake before we hit the road for my stepdaughter's and the grandchildren, one of whom is just getting his two first teeth. :)

Why scratch of course! First the dough in the bread maker, then the topping and finally a simple confectioners sugar glaze....

Good luck with the carrot cake and have a most agreeable time with the GrandKids. Shrimp are a terrible thing to waste. I like my sautéed.

><((((º>shrimp are tasty

These were sad little half bags I'd forgotten about. Jaime got the the jumbos with homemade cocktail sauce. I got the smaller ones that needed to have freezer burn trimmed off, chopped up with tomatoes, peppers, onions, cilantro, sherry vinegar and olive oil. Both very yummy (after all I had to taste his too to make sure they were okay...). :)

Alejandro conscientiously objects to seafood (though not to eating birds and mammals) so he got a peanut butter sandwich. (Just desserts for that kind of logic!)

Couldn't be easier. Squirt ketchup into a small dish. Add healthy dollop or two of grated horseradish (I keep a jar of it in the frig), maybe a squeeze of lemon juice, and maybe some hot sauce if that's your thing (though horseradish is spicy so keep that in mind), and stir. Voila, cocktail sauce.

Well, we had Christmas dinner (a day early - we get the 24th off for Emperor's Birthday in Japan, but not the 25th). Roast turkey (breast - a whole turkey is too much for just the four of us), apple-pecan stuffing, my wife's special Christmas cake. I said I was refusing to work Christmas day this year so now I have to see if I can make that stick tomorrow.
