Have you ever done something really stupid?

Just what it says on the tin.

Wow, please be careful Kotik. If you're drinking enough to push your tolerance that high, I'd be concerned what damage you may be doing to yourself. Only a few months ago one of my engineers died from alcohol-induced organ failure. He was only in his late twenties. :( I'm not saying you're anywhere near that sort of thing, but that much alcohol can't be doing you any good.

Whoa Kotik,

Definitely a few too many there. Please be careful, you're an uncle now. Believe it or not no one will want to explain if something bad happens. you don't want to pull a Bill Holden.

Then there's renting a car in Florida and leaving your own keys in it along with the rental company's when you drop it off...

Sigh.

I shouldn't even have taken them with me -- other than the one I needed to get back into my own car at the airport, anyway. Argghhhhhhh!!!! And I was so damned careful to make sure I had everything else!

So a couple years ago we took a trip to Singapore. My wife booked us to fly out of Narita Airport and return using Haneda Airport. The two airports are about 50 miles apart. When it came time to get out to the airport we started discussing how to get there and we decided to drive out to Narita (strangely for Tokyo it is both faster, easier and less expensive to drive to the airport and park than it is to take the train).

It wasn't until we were preparing to fly back from Singapore that I realized that we were flying to Haneda but the car was at Narita! I wound up taking the train out to Narita the following day to get the car.

LOL. At least you and your wife shared that little oversight.

I also almost missed my flight because I waited at a gate with another Albany flight, before finally remembering that I was actually flying to BALTIMORE first.

I'm just hoping these aren't the signs of anything bad and instead just my usual space cadet tendencies.

UPDATE: Alamo is mailing me my keys. Yay!

I could write books about the stupid things I've done.

I once left the drive-thru without the food.

I called the police to work for the water alarm.

I walked around the local Summerfest for a half hour with a roll of toilet paper tucked under my arm.

In high school, I got my arm stuck in the chair at the 85 Club dinner.

LOL. (What IS a water alarm?)

Bether and I ran into each other at the grocery store yesterday. Not something that's too likely for the rest of y'all. :)

I don't know what a 'water alarm' is either, but I'm guessing it's not something that the police need to deal with. :)

The water alarm used to go off at work if water levels were too high in the ground. I think? This was some years ago. One morning I came in to open the store and heard an alarm. I thought it was the store alarm and so called the police. How embarrassing!

I thought I would stop by here and say hello. :)

It is pretty amazing that we live in the same town, isn't it? :)

Nice snowstorm. Is it spring yet?

It is a nice snowstorm, and plenty overdue, but then I don't really have to go out in it...

Sorry this image is so friggin' big, but Photobucket has made itself more mystifying and right now I don't have time to figure out how to shrink it.

Lovely.

It's barely jacket weather here. No snow. Not even any frost. Sigh.

I was kind of surprised when I read The Yearling last summer at how the frost hit those Florida settlers and their year didn't seem all that different from mine in terms of gardening and farming. But then that part of Florida is pretty far north, and even down where my parents live in Inverness they get hit with regular frosts and occasional hard freezes despite the lakes. I was really very cold the first day I went down there recently -- so cold I wore the boiled wool jacket that I wore for the airplane for the next two days and put a borrowed fleece over it just to stay comfortable in the house. Then the day I flew back to Albany it was tropical down there and relatively balmy up here too (as I discovered waiting outside in the rain for my husband to drop the spare keys off with me...).

I was also amazed at how the folks in The Yearling stored their meat in jars of fat without refrigeration for months and somehow didn't kill themselves, but I guess they hadn't yet grown some of the nasty bacteria we have today. Maybe they also salted the hell out of it.
