Neil Armstrong dies at 82

RIP, Skywalker.

I saw this when I arrived home this evening. Sad to hear it...but the man sure lived one amazing life!

The passing of Neil Armstrong is very sad. Those of us who lived through the moon landing in 1969, I think we all must remember exactly what we were doing at the time. I was a college student taking courses in Mexico City for the summer. It was interesting listening to the commentary on TV in Spanish and discussing the event in Spanish with my host family.

For me, young man with the head full of visions of distant worlds, it was the culmination of a dream.
I spent the night standing, attached to the TV.
That indescribable feeling will always remain in me .

RIP, Mr Armstrong!

I sat for ours in front of the TV waiting for Armstrong to comedown that ladder. The announcer kept saying any time now. apparently Amstrong and Aldrin had to go through a long check list before the event. but when Armstrong came down and stepped on the moon it was, for me the start.

After the enormous risks and sacrifices these people made to blaze the trail, the failure to build on that achievement makes me feel they are being let down.

Cogito, you are right. Opportunity missed:. A permanent station on the Moon. Probably in one of the craters so the sun wouldn't bee a factor. Solar panels could be erected in the sun.

The station would house people, provide laboratory space and be a launching pad for a manned mission to Mars.

It could have been done had the funds been provided. but congress in its wisdom starved NASa.

Neil Armstrong was a hero and was an amazing person. I was really sad to hear about him passing away.
