I've never watched it, but from those pictures the sets look amazing.

You (and everyone else who hasn't yet) should watch season one. It's on HBO and I think they're doing reruns. Otherwise season one will be out on DVD in the beginning of March. It's really, really, really great!

Yay! I got my GOT season 1 DVDs today. The weekend is saved. :happyjump:

And then there's season 2 coming soon;

Can Game of Thrones season two live up to season one?

Isn't anyone else watching this? I cannot recommend this series enough!

Some scattered thought on the first episode of season two that aired yesterday.

  • While the show is still pretty darn awesome, this felt a tad slow and choppy. I suppose the choppiness will remain, since the books have several parallel story lines. It was only the first book that kept most of them together.
  • I loved when Tyrion arrived and took charge, both of Joffrey and then the Small Council and scolded his sister.
  • Nice menacing Grey Wind in CGI. I like how Robb acted towards Jaime and he's growing as a leader - and king.
  • Speaking of CGI, that dragon was just too cute for words. I want one as a pet.
  • Craster looked much too clean than I had imagined. But he's still a dirty old frakker! And was that Gilly we saw and that spoke?
  • Stannis is one (intentionally) bland character. He's such a traditional man that I find it hard to believe he just fell for some new fiery religion. I've had the same problem with him in the books.
  • The child actors are very good. In this episode I especially liked the performance of Isaac Hempsted-Wright as Bran.
  • Not much Arya here, except a glimpse at the end.
  • The slaying of King Robert's bastards were gruesome.
  • So Roz is now running Littlefinger's brothel? That was fast work. I suppose she'll take the place from whatever characters did that in the books.
  • Another needless, gratuitous sex scene. Oh well, better get used to it.
  • Joffrey is such a complete and utter bastard. Cersei is an evil witch, but I cheered when she slapped him. More Joffrey slapping for the people!
  • The added scene between Littlefinger and Cersei felt odd. I would never think him to be so careless as to challenge her like that. He's usually to smart for that, so he got what he deserved when she threatened to kill him.
  • Lena Headey looked quite nice here.
  • I wonder what they'll do with Jaime this season, considering he'll be in confinement the whole time.

You kinda have to see season one first.

And fair warning, it has some needless sexual content and nudity (one of my beefs with it) but not surprising since it's on HBO.

That's one of the things that really makes me punch the hate-button repeatedly. Somehow TV producers got it into their heads that you only need to show tits and your program'll be fine. It started over here in Germany about 10 years ago. Does anybody remember Italian singer "Sabrina"? If not, you didn't miss much. She was/is a mediterranian Bimbo with a chest that makes Pamela Anderson look like a surf board and a voice that makes finger nails scratching on a black board sound like a viable option. She "starred" on German TV in the kid's holliday program at 1400 in the afternoon in a see-throuh top in a bloody PG-13 program. Why the bloody hell do people think that men will abandon reason if they see some tits?? Are we that shallow? I refuse to be considered a primitive, tit-controlled ape !

Well, Game of Thrones is an awesome show despite the gratuitous titillation.

And yeah, I'm old enough to remember Sabrina...

So does it run on HBO over there? You have HBO in Sweden? I had assumed that was a co-production with the BBC or something, like Rome was (plenty o' sex and nudity there).

Nope, just went and looked it up. Just HBO. Well, yes, there would be gratuitous sex and nudity. I don't mind at all for myself, but it gets awkward shooing the kid away.

I like HBO, but I wouldn't bother subscribing for myself. But my husband loves boxing... and every time we've cut off HBO to save money, we end up putting it right back on for the next Friday night fight he can't bear to miss.
