My mother has been in the hospital for about two weeks. I flew down to Florida last week to see her. It's been quite a roller coaster ride. Yesterday we were talking about what she needed to do to get ready to go to rehab. Today she developed a whole new problem and isn't looking like she'll be with us much longer. She's getting hospice care at the hospital tonight. If she makes it through the night, she'll go home to her apartment in assisted living tomorrow and get hospice care there. The waiting is hard, but I'm glad I'm here.

Good luck! I am looking forward to those days with my parents. I'm sure your mother must be so relieved to have you there.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and good wishes. My mother died while I was in Florida. We were able to take her home and let her die in her grandmother's bed. She would have been 96 next month - a long life with many joys and that touched many people. I miss her, but I really couldn't have asked for more.

My closeness to you is a concrete thing, my friend.
And you're right. If I well understand your words, it is really hard to ask for more.

My condolences, Cap'n Frances. It sounds as if it was as good a death as a woman could have. You did well.

It probably isn't much consolation to you right now that she died as she would have wished, but as someone who's gone through something very similar I can tell you that it will be a comfort in the future.

There's no replacing our parents and the hole of their absence from our lives is a dreadful thing, but it gets easier to live with. Just take one day at a time, go easy on yourself, and let yourself grieve in any way that seems good to you.

My sincere sympathies.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Cap'n Frances. :( Sending along my love and care to you. It's painful watching people we love age and decline.

I lost a close friend of mine a few months ago and my dad has so many health issues, I wonder how much time he may have left here with us as well. Life can be challenging for sure. I try to always focus on love and light, but the path can be difficult at times.
