When you edit a message, the window shows a panel on the left that contains lots of smilies. There's a link 'View more smiles' at the bottom of the panel to open a popup window with even more smilies. If the smiley you want to use is any of these, just click on the smiley image and that will insert a special sequence of characters like (colon) (D) to display
. Once you see what the character sequences are, you might get familiar enough with the more common ones to type then in directly. Either way works the same.
If you want to be extra clever and use a smiley that is hosted somewhere else then you need to find out the URL (
http://blablabla/something.jpg) of the image file. If you see the image you want on another web site you can find the URL in most browsers by right-clicking on it and then selecting 'properties'. In Firefox you can easily copy the URL to your computer's clipboard by selecting 'copy image location'.
To insert the image into your post click on the Img button in the message editor and it will put
into your message. Just put your image URL in the middle so you get
