Re: Something Typical
Valparaiso looks beautiful and BIG. And Pittsburgh also has those thingies for going up a steep hill, doesn't it, Just Trip'n? I think they call it the Funicular? My husband loves Pittsburgh. I think it's very pretty too but man oh man can it be cold there when the wind is blowing down through the city in the middle of winter, which was the only time I've been there.
Of course, that's also true here in the Albany area.
T'PopTarts, I bet some people pay a lot of money to go to see your boring beach there (and your zoo). In fact, I know a family here that just went there on spring break. The son, who is my kid's age, saw the girls on the beach in California and is already planning to move there when he's old enough...
Lady Rainbow, you're so young! So did you do fanfic for nanowrimo, or original stuff? Some of the people in my writing group do that. It's quite a feat.

*blushes* Thanks, Alelou. I'm actually older than I look.
And I did an original story for Nanowrimo. I squeezed under the deadline and the word count. The text of it is here:
http://thesilkdragon.blogspot.com/
It's a fantasy story. Kind of. Not my best work, but I was kinda loopy when I wrote it. LOL

Re: Something Typical
Lady Rainbow, you look good in that weird skirt.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.
But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Vero, we have those inclines too! (we have 2 inclines.) (I have never heard that word "funcular" but I see it online.) We just call them "inclines."
And we have also have outrageously steep hills, and and houses clinging to the sides of cliffs.
OOooo Look what I found a picture of:
I LOVE THIS MURAL. The "Bride on Penn Ave." It's really striking. It looks so real. You always do a double take when you drive by:

I live in Santiago now. Which is 150 Km from Valparaiso, about 1,5 hours by car. The Cordillera is visible from every house and during winter in a clear day you can see the Aconcagua Mountain.
In that picture the building in the center is the US embassy. I used to work in the building at the left.

Pittsburg is beautiful, I'll have to add it to my US destinations visit list.

Re: Something Typical
Funicular.
That reminds me a famous neapolitan song: Funiculì, funiculà! Does someone know this song?
Anyway, in my opinion, amongst the best "Funiculars" of the whole world there're those of Lisbona.
They are very beautiful. Better: there you can find the most attractive "ELEVADORES" (lifts) which exist.
And, justTripn, that mural makes me gasping!

Re: Something Typical
So beautiful! Both cities, but what a dramatic prospect in Santiago.
Now I'm wondering where I picked up the term funicular. Maybe Quebec?
I think the whole point of nanowrimo is to NOT try to do your best work, but to just get it done, right? So you achieved it! And you can always revise...

Re: Something Typical
Apropos of "Funiculars! and "Incliners".
Elsewhere I said Superga is a Basilica on a hill amongst the hills that surround Turin.

OOOooo ahhh! How far away are those mountains? Is the city at the foot of the mountains?
Asso, I watched video of the train ride. There is a very etherial version of Dire Straits' song "Brothers in Arms" in the middle of that video. Interesting.

The Land of Snow and Cold:
Ironically it was actually unseasonably warm when I took this back at the beginning of March.

Gasp! This is very uncommon for me!
I want to say: not the snow, but the landscape!
