I have made a few small changes today, nothing life shattering.

1. I have added a small function so that if you put the wrong letters in the reCAPTCHA field in the comments of a story it should retain your comment and names... if you are going to write an essay of a comment or your comments are important to you then for goodness sake write them in notepad or word first!

2. I have added the counters for the number of visitors to stories and the number of hits. The number of unique visitors has been logging for a year or more so some of those numbers are pretty high. The hit counter was only started to day so they will be low.

That is all for now, the Boss Man has given me some other chores to do but I also have University work to deal with so they may not happen too quickly... depends on how desperate I am to put off my tests and revision!

Those are very cool things, so thank you.

I'm a little confused though. The number of people is higher than the number of times read -- does that mean, for example, 250 people popped in but only 42 were actually different visitors (and the rest were hits from me and others checking for comments)?

I originally wrote the code for logging unique visitors to a story a year or more ago. The only thing missing was actually displaying the results. So those unique numbers are high because they have been building for so long.

The hit counters started logging today, about half an hour after I created this thread. So they will take time to build up.

Unfortunately I don't have time to put code in to filter out those annoying bots from Google and other search engines. They are likely pushing the unique hits numbers up as well. When I get some time I will try and filter them out.

Well, the examples I looked at were just posted in the last week or two, so that's why I'm confused.

EDIT: The more urgent problem, from an authorial point of view, is that I just tried to leave Misplaced feedback on "Unexpected Too" and it didn't work. I tried twice. So something's funky there.

I, too, am experiencing funkiness. ;-)

Elessar just gave me an interpretation of the stats that I beleive: the first number is the number of UNIQUE hits. The second number is how many times YOU YOURSELF have clicked on the story. So you are only counted once in the first number.

After analyzing the stats, I conclude I should write more porn, lol . . . and I should write new stories. New stories sure beat out old stories.

While, mjmyeg explained that as the count only going back a year or so.

But I don't think that's true since some new stories have high counts of the first number and like 1 for the second number. Case in point the recent story by Dbear has 244 unique clicks and 5 for the second number, which would be the number of times I went to it to check for comments. If you check Dbear's story and get a number other than 5 for the second number that would comfirm Elessar's theory.

First up, have fixed the reCAPTCHA thing... not sure why it vanished... but it is back and my stories are now full of test comments... I really like to talk to myself.

There was an error with the read counter, that is fixed, but it is still pretty low so don't worry about the counts there, they should balance out as time passes.
